No joy. New instance of server, wp still set for localhost, php upgraded as above… still get menu-slug message on import.
I think enfold isn’t for me and has taken up too much of my time. I’m going back to what I’m familiar with

Partly content, and partly because I dont want to audit everything you do, and partly because I won’t learn anything from that approach

Different error messages that flashed too fast to read but no demo imported still.
Just one site and I’d appreciate some manual import assistance.
