Oops. I was on the wrong page, and using browser. I need to figure out how to get to mobile version since I don’t use AMP. Maybe resizing my window will do it.

Ok, when I resize my browser window to what I see on my mobile phone (on the blog page this time), here’s what I see in Firefox (private browser) > Tools > Browser Tools > Web Dev Tools > Errors tab:

I have no idea what any of this means. Is any of this related to what I’m seeing?

(oh, this is only on mobile)

While my pagespeedinsights went up a little, it still gets the Defer Off-screen Images by lazy-loading and it shows blog post element images as the problem (though the actual screenshot of the images is a blank white box??), Here’s a link to the results: https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-gatehealing-com-counseling-austin-tx-individual-counseling-adults-teens/ex8rrn1mig?form_factor=mobile

Note Performance: Defer off screen images then expand that section. While I’m ok with and 83, I was scoring in the 60’s for my homepage with the same issue, so I had to completely remove that element. I’m trying to figure out how to cross link the blog to the homepage now.

    Thanks for your help.

What kind of errors? Do you mean ON my site when I go to it? Or do you mean errors listed in pagespeedinsights etc?

    J

I’ll try it, however Enabling Disable JQuery Migrate (a bit confusing . . . perhaps the toggle should be “Enable JQuery Migrate”), my other active thread here suggests Disabling Disable JQuery Migrate (note the double negative) to deal with some images sticking in portrait orientation.

I’ll try this thread advice and see if it messes up the other thread’s advice. If it does, I’ll try the plugin you suggested.

Thx! I’ll come back and let y’all know if it works.

    @Guenni007,

regarding: “The loading of jQuery in the footer could be set on Enfold on the settings page: performance
This is of course possible, but then you have to take into account that the scripts that need jQuery are loaded afterwards. This can be achieved, for example, by first not loading the scripts in the head area and then setting a correspondingly higher priority number for the function.”
****How do I “first not load scripts in head, then set a correspondingly higher priority number for the function?”*****

Next: do you really need jQuery Migrate ? – same on performance tab”
*****I think it’s enabled by default. I have no clue how it works, but I’ll turn it off just in case (ie i’ll enable the disable feature)*****

    Thanks!

    @Mike
Yeah, it looks like disabling then re-enabling wp-optimizatoin fixed it for now. Leaving it off was not an option bc the optimized images were disabled with it. I got another optimization app, but it was going to take over a day to finish over 5000 images (so many apparently bc of multiple resizes of each of the 350 images I have).

As for speed related to code needing to be minified/combined, I have no idea what happened to my wp-fastest cache, but that’s what I was using instead of just using Enfolds combine/minify tools. I’ve readded wp fastest cache, but am still scratching my head as to what happened to it in the first place.

Thanks for the reply. Most of that was over my head. All of the html comes directly from the Enfold theme. I get all kinds of SEO errors saying that my HTML ratio is far too high. No idea why there are so many classes . . .and I don’t know what ‘rules’ is referring to. Not sure why not just 1 ol either. I’ll have to look.

I fixed that specific page you referenced. I have no clue how all of those classes get up there. I’ve seen it on other pages in text blocks too. It’s a bunch of extraneous code that I didn’t put there and that seems to have no purpose. Seems like a theme issue. I went thru every text block on my site and removed all the div class stuff like that. It took WEEKS. Still have no clue why it just appeared in there. I must’ve missed some, or they just start showing up spontaneously when I update a page. I don’t know, but it’s driving me batty.

I wish I knew enough to tell JQuery to load in the head vs foot, or somehow to just get it above the scripts that seem to depend on it.

Turning off WP Optimize fixed the issue. I hate to lose that plugin though. Just checked and apparently when I deactivate wp-optimize all of my images go back to their original file sizes (2-4MB each). So that’s not really an option. ShortPixel slows my site down SUBSTANTIALLY. So WPO causes sticking, SP slows things down too much. I gotta figure something out for images.
    Thx!

And now that I’m on my laptop, it sticks on laptop as well. (Chrome, firefox….Im using firefox on phone, but tried both on laptop)

It happens in individual posts too

It seems to resolve after several seconds, but this is not good user experience and I’m concerned about SEO impact.

I’m waiting to hear back, but for now, my ttfb via catchpoing is about a second. So much improved. Not sure exactly what I did, but I’ve been blindly tweaking settings that seem relevant and I must’ve stumbled onto something somewhere . . . Mobile is still a little slower, but it’s much better than before.

I’ll see what cloudflare and my host say about servers.

re: gtag: I found it in the SOGO add script header footer Plugin. I just deleted it from there. It definitely improved my speed, but I don’t know if the tag needs to be where I had it, or where it’s still present.

    See private note below:

I have no idea why that gtag is in there twice (source code shows it in FIVE places, but i’m guessing 3 of those aren’t impacting anything).

I was using Yoast SEO but changed to Rank Math for now, but I’m not seeing that tag in the analytics section, just my analytics property and data stream for GA4.

It does look like that extra tag is tacking on some time. If y’all know how to fix it, pls let me know, but i’m going to post on the Google Search Console forum as well.

Now I’ve deactived AO and WP fastest cache and am trying the Wp-optimize plugin, which seems to be helping, though it is taking over 30 minutes to smush 1 image, so I don’t know how reliable this is going to be.

I use Cloudflare CDN and it is integrated to WP fastest cache successfully. I just purchased unlimited credits for Short Pixel and re-processed everything. Oddly, I had one page speed insights result where performance was a 97. Then it went back to the 50’s and 60’s.

My host is Dreamhost, but I’m not sure where the server is located. Though I’d think if it was that it would also impact my desktop site, but that is straight A’s. 97 and above consistently.

Login info is in the private box.

The resize after upload plugin slows things down, so I had it deactivated, but tried it again, and it does slow things down, so I am leaving that off for now.

I don’t have a plugin for Google Tag Manager. I have no clue how it’s there twice. I’ll look into how to get rid of one of them.

Re: Images. I am running short pixel, short pixel adaptive images, and short pixel resize image upload. I have lazy loading enabled and set for all videos and images. Not sure what else I can do? SP is supposed to convert file types to modern types that are more optimized.

    J

Oh, and part of my confusion is that my GTmetrix, pagespeedinsights etc DESKTOP scores are at 99-100%. It is ONLY my mobile device speeds that are staying in the 70’s, whether I am using wp fastest cache along with Enfold compression/merging, or just Enfold compression/merging. . . those work great on desktop, it’s just mobile that is the problem.

Any idea why it would only be a mobile issue?

Autoptimize really slowed my site down. I am using WP fastest cache now, but can switch to AO if I know what settings to use, and what to put in those fields that allow for codes to exclude, the critical/above the fold css, etc. Removing AO sped everything up, but that may be because I had the wrong stuff in those boxes. I am guessing that using Enfold compressions, WP Fastest Cache compressions AND AO compressions would not be a good idea. . . I have another thread on that question.

    HI,

You said, “Looks like you’ve disabled the search bar in the header but if you want to adjust the size of the label, try to use this css code.”

However, it is Enabled (ie the toggle is on) and the Top Header is enabled on General Layout > Layout Tab > Logo and Main Menu.

If you pull up my website on an iPhone, you can see that my “logo” which in this case is just my name/company is pushed a bit to the right, almost overlapping the magnifying glass icon–my ‘actual’ logo is a compass that disappears on mobile devices, but the ‘name’ part of that doesn’t move over to the left to take its place–the compass just disappears but leaves the text “Jonathan F. Anderson, LPC-S, Gate Healing, PLLC” where it is . . . I think that causes the tap target of the magnifying glass to be too small.

How did I disable the search bar in the header? In Enfold Child > Header, I don’t see anything in any of the 3 tabs where I can turn it back on. . . would that fix the issue without additional css code?

in reply to: broken css link warning in ahrefs crawl #1418985

Got it switched back and added the functions.php code.

    Thx!

    Thanks Ismael,

Again, apologies on being slow on the uptake here . . . . but leave it “as is” meaning as of the last bots changes y’all made? Or “as is” as the way I originally had it? There’s an ambiguity in what “as is” means to me here.

    J

in reply to: broken css link warning in ahrefs crawl #1418974

Ok, so back to my original bots file (vs the one y’all provided) and just use the functions.php code, then check with my seo folks for clarity from there?

I know I seem a bit dense here, but I’m not technical at all.
    J

in reply to: broken css link warning in ahrefs crawl #1418955

a little above my head, but is that a yes or no and using both your bots file AND the functions.php code?

    J

in reply to: broken css link warning in ahrefs crawl #1418825

Any harm in me changing my bots file to what you put, and adding the functions.php code? I’ll just start with changing my bots file, but will add the functions.php as well if y’all think that’s not overkill or harmful.

Here’s the bots file I already had. Should I replace it with yours, or keep some aspects of it?
