I am sorry but could not understand the first line of yours: “you won’t have both instances live for very long”.
And yes, sure the aim is to replace (redirect) an existing (old) domain with developed (new) one as well keep the developed (new) hosting plan, we will remove the an existing (old) hosting plan where is located the old site, and keep the developed (new) hosting plan, which will be loaded with the an existing (old) domain. I hope that makes sense!
