Hi Guenni007.
You know what I think happened? I got fooled again by Google Chrome not really clearing cache. I thought I even looked in incognito mode – but maybe not. Anyway, this morning I installed a system upgrade and restarted my computer. Just now I went to the website to take a screenshot for you and…Ah! It’s looking just as I had wanted! 3 Widgets taking up what seems like 4 columns – the last using 1/2 of the space.
Thank you for taking the time to test and check back in!
April 8, 2017 at 4:46 pm in reply to: Delete JavaScript and CSS that block the display in the above-the-fold content #774573Sounds like a good plan John.
I always do 1-3.
Re 4-5: I’ve been using WPMU Hummingbird for their minify. Just started, so we’ll see if I need more.
#6 is a new idea to me, sounds interesting.
Re #7: I need to learn more about Cloudflare before going there.
8-9: No problem! I’ve always got coffee handy and there’s always something to do for 20 mins
10: Good advice. We could insert this before #1 and #5 as well!Basilis,
I do not understand your reply at all. What are you trying to say?
Thank you Victoria for this helpful information. I understand better and I did not realize that Enfold did not have any theme settings for how the images on blog posts will appear by default. That would certainly explain the “coincidence” that the default WP media setting of thumbs is 80 x 80 pixels, and that’s what they are on my pages.
Something that still confuses me, however, is why, when I adjust the settings in Enfold > Blog Layout to one of the other options that I see no difference. Also, when I open my posts page, and employ the Advanced Layout Editor and try to set up a content element of “blog posts” and choose one of the alternate presentations from the drop down – even grid layout – I still see no change.
I feel like there must be a setting I am missing. Something that is overriding the options I am making in Enfold settings.
I think you have explained why the thumbs are that size to start with. But I still have an issue with my Enfold setting changes not having an effect.
Here you go.
I unconsciously talk at cross purposes??! I disagree.
The Footer options were already set at 3 columns. This CSS had no effect. Perhaps I need to say “important” in there some where? It seems like when something doesn’t work the first time I get new code that has the word “important” in there. :-)
Thanks for trying Nikko, but that doesn’t seem to have had any effect.
April 7, 2017 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Delete JavaScript and CSS that block the display in the above-the-fold content #774134Thanks for the addition info @memsmaximus! I’ve been wondering how moving things to the footer would effect things. Maybe a css or javascript minify?
I do understand about plugins and I avoid them whenever possible for the reasons you state. The reason I wrote in was in the hopes of finding a solution that would not require another plugin. Enfold is not “blazing fast” to start – but it does indeed slow down with some plugins.
Regardless of what the other testers say, if Google is now factoring page speed into it’s ranking algorithm (especially for mobile) I need to be aware of it’s Page Insights score.
Those articles are not helpful! Are you telling me that there is NO WAY to tell enfold to not force that tiny square crop on blog pages? That I have to do some special coding? And what coding? In CSS, In PHP? I’d prefer you actually use a full sentence or 2 to explain to me what is happening before just throwing a couple of links at me. By the way – both those articles had every image link in the article broken, so no, not helpful.
I am not creating or cropping these thumbnails! This happens automatically. I have made sure that Settings > Media is unchecked to not force the thumbnail size but but when I added a new image it made no difference.
In the Private Content area are links to 2 additional enfold sites that also have this tiny square thumbnail by default. I did nothing to make this look like this, it was the Enfold theme default. The thumbnail crop is coded into the page. I did not change it. It pulls the image from the featured image of the post – which is not square but horizontal. A lot of times it looks okay and I don’t worry about it. But sometimes it looks awful and I want to change it. Like now.
Also in the Private Content area are links to 2 Enfold sites that do not have tiny square thumbnails. I did not build these sites but I know they are enfold and that the designer didn’t use any special code.
So clearly it is possible. Please help me find that setting.

April 7, 2017 at 4:25 pm in reply to: Delete JavaScript and CSS that block the display in the above-the-fold content #774061I have the exact same question! I am starting to worry about Enfold because it seems all my Enfold sites run a bit slow. Slow enough that Google’s Page Speed Insights tool ranks them in the red – needs improvement and “should fix!”
The recommendation that Google makes is:
Should Fix:
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Show how to fixThe it is further explained. In this example the details show:
Your page has 1 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:
https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Raleway%7CLato:300,400,700
Hide detailsIs there a setting in Enfold that requests this to move to the footer? If not, can you confirm that using a plugin – such as the one recommended above, or from WPMU etc will not interfere with the site?
With the info above, can you recommend a solution?
April 7, 2017 at 4:14 pm in reply to: Why is the featured image of my post included in the photo gallery? #774057@menmaximus, thank you for that information. I do like knowing why something is happening! I think in this case it is not enough of an issue for me to go to that additional set up. But I use Enfold a lot so it’s good to know this information is available.
I’m guessing that if I ended up using a gallery plugin for galleries in the future that this probably wouldn’t happen because they plugin would be managing it instead. What do you think?
Thanks but could you be more specific? I don’t see anything about changing the aspect ratio of the thumbnail images. I tried the 2 other “blog styles” but I didn’t like them any better, plus they still had the small square thumbnail.
I have updated Enfold. I see no change to my issue.
Here you go.
Thank you @rasa for the visual list!
I’m revisiting this issue at last. I have been using the color sections. I’m finding that I cannot display it at narrower than about 100 pixels high. Even if I set the width to 40 px or even 20px and the padding to nothing. Why? Is it possible to display it at a custom height under 100 pixels.
Have you tried the fresh credentials?
Very helpful, thank you!
Well, let’s start by just logging in and looking at the files. Why do you need ftp?
I have added you as a temp user. I think it would be best if you had a look – to at least be sure we are talking about the same file.
Actually, see my entry from December 12th above in this thread. That code that I copied and pasted is the entirety of the Enfold child theme functions.php file. There is no is_checkout function to remove or edit.
Hello again Ismael,
Do you think it is safe to simply remove the function is_checkout altogether?
Here’s a clue. I had recently deactivated WooCommerce. (We switched to JotForms). So I tried simply reactivating that plugin even though we aren’t using it for anything. That fixed the issue. But ideally I’d like it to work no matter what so I can not just deactivate but remove WooCommerce.
I updated everything and deactivated all my plug-ins and the problem persists. I looked in Appearance > editor at the file referenced in the error message. At least I think it might be the right file. This is what was in the file called functions.php in the child theme files:
<?php
/*
* Add your own functions here. You can also copy some of the theme functions into this file.
* WordPress will use those functions instead of the original functions then.
*/require_once get_stylesheet_directory( ) . ‘/inc/init.php’;
December 10, 2016 at 10:19 pm in reply to: My custom categories do not link to their full posts #722743Oh! I think that must have been pulled from the previous theme or else something Kresi told me to add to align the caption. But regardless I removed the CSS and now the events “read more” links do work.
November 23, 2016 at 5:53 pm in reply to: My custom categories do not link to their full posts #716086Have you logged in and had a look? Any ideas why this is an issue on the home page but not the test page?
That had no effect. Is there no setting for this area?
November 21, 2016 at 2:57 pm in reply to: My custom categories do not link to their full posts #714827I can’t find the open tag. I also tried putting all the “events” in pending mode and turning them on one by one. The thing with the open tag is why would they be open on this page but not on the other page that worked? Anyway, I am stuck. I have added a user to give you access and will add the credentials in the private content area below.
November 20, 2016 at 3:59 pm in reply to: My custom categories do not link to their full posts #714522Oh! A closed tag. Of course. But I used Advanced layout builder. So I think the closed tag has to be in the original content that was already on one of the blog posts. But wait – I just created all those as new events – copying and pasting into the front end. I’m perplexed as to where an unclosed tag could be or could have come from. But I’ll look at all the code and if I don’t find it I will post access credentials for you here. Thanks!
