hi.
thanks for your reply.
i tried your suggestion and it did nothing.
to be clear – i am receiving replies to my unique forum posts but what has changed is that when i initially created my account and subscribed to the forum (the whole forum) i received all the posts made daily as individual emails plus replies to my unique forum posts. now, i’m only receiving replies to my own posts and nothing else.
i’d prefer to receive all the forum posts as reading what others write in about has proved invaluable in constructing my own site.
can you please help me reset my account so that i continue to receive all the daily posts?
thanks in advance for your help.

dear andy,
thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my question.
i tried using just an image and that was much better. it was responsive and i managed to get rid of the top/bottom padding but couldn’t get rid of all the extra space on the right and left sides no matter what i did.
at this point i’m caving and hiring someone from werkpress.
but thanks again for chiming in.

dear Josue,
thank you so much for your reply.
i tried your code suggestions but unfortunately it didn’t work. and fyi: i cut and paste your code for the .js file but dreamweaver flagged a syntax error. don’t know if this contributed to the failure.
at this point i’m caving and hiring some talent through werkpress. even with my background coding (16 years – which i’m sure you’ll find shocking) i’m finding it way too time consuming and hit-or-miss with the naming conventions/nesting to adjust the enfold elements to my needs.
hopefully werkpress is the solution – otherwise i’ll be back on the forum.
and again, thanks so much for all of your help which has helped me get the lay of the land.

March 2, 2015 at 11:44 pm in reply to: customization: main nav, footer and responsive images #404852dear josue,
thanks for your reply and all your suggestions – so appreciated!
first, the footers a done deal – it now works! thank you! i had to add some more css styling to one of your bits to get the image position lower and more to the right :
#footer .widget .textwidget img{
float: right !important;
display: block;
margin-bottom: -2px;
margin-right: -30px;
}and i used a max-height attribute to stop the #footer from getting taller when i made the browser window smaller.
i also hid the header and got the submenu in the right location and sticky – so hooray!
unfortunately though i couldn’t customize it at all. i tried every configuration i could think of (my own custom class and all the classes i could find in the shortcodes.css (e.g. .av-submenu-container, .av-subnav-menu, etc.) but couldn’t get the results i wanted.
here’s a picture of what i currently have vs what i’d like:
http://www.cindyworkman.com/cw_images/menu_josue_030215.jpg
while i could adjust font attributes, here’s a list of what i had trouble with:
– changing the height of the menu. i’d like it to be 42px
– i’d like the menu buttons to expand the full width of the menu
– i’d like the active background color to be #5c5c5c
– i’d like there to be a border between buttons (running the full vertical height) and along the top and bottom of the whole menu barthanks in advance for your help and yes, i’d like to tackle the overlap and the image responsiveness once this is sorted out.

dear elliot,
thanks so much for your replies – josue chimed in on the header and suggested i use the ‘full width submenu’ element which when dragged between items in the avia layout builder secured a specific location on my one-page site. it also has a sticky option so it stays there when the page scrolls. still have a few style issues to sort but will reply to him on point.
additionally, i got the footer issue resolved and the height’s maintaining and the image is in the correct position.
so thanks again for all your help.

dear elliot,
thanks for your reply and advice – much appreciated.
one further question, you mention changing code in the function.php file that’s part of the enfold theme.
if i’m following a workflow using a child theme (to prevent my customizations from getting lost due to future theme updates) – would i :
– copy the code mentioned above to the child them’s function.php and customize it from there?
– or do i need to add something additional code to the child theme’s function.php ensure that the child theme’s function.php takes priority over the parent (enfold theme) function.php?
looking forward to your reply and thanks.

dear elliott,
thanks for your reply and for the explanations. glad too to hear WP will only load images as they are required by the page.
but i do have some concerns as they apply to my unique website. i’m creating a one-page website with no blog. it will an online artist portfolio site and so chock full of slider portfolios which will require an ungodly amount of images.
I will be using a 3rd party slider to create these portfolios so i’m not sure how they’ve configured things e.g. what set dimensions they might use and/or the number of variations they automate during the upload process – which would be in addition to those configured for the enfold theme (smartslider2).
so in the end i’m concerned that with a media library that could potentially include 1,000 images, the image count will jump to 14,000 quickly with all these mandated variations.
in the end, i’ll only need images for backgrounds of color blocks, for my menu (custom css) and for these slider portfolios.
i’ve found another 3rd party plugin that will allow me to create folders inside the media library – so this will help organize the images but is there a way to prevent this automation?
– can i limit/prevent these various image variations from being written and upload only one image – at my intent size? by this i mean, i upload an image that’s 1200×1200 and that’s the only one that get’s uploaded/created?
– is there a way to circumnavigate this automation process completely? e.g. i tried (via ftp) to upload an image into the uploads folder, but it doesn’t show up in the media library. my take-away from this is that in order for items to be seen/worked with in the WP admin UI, images need to be uploaded using the admin interface. or am i missing something?
thanks in advance for your reply.

thanks!
you are a god – thank you!
dear josue,
thanks for your reply.
So based on what you’re saying, if i add a shortcode to a text block in the AVIA layout builder, this too would be saved to the wordpress database and should be safe from future updates?
additionally, i’m a bit confused by the 3 css file choices:
– enfold.css
– style.css (child theme)
– quick cssenfold.css
can you explain what this css covers? and where it is located?style.css
if i’m working in a child theme and i want to adjust the css of an element it seems a quick fix to add some code to the style.css file in the appearance > editor > style.css file. and this would be safe from updates as it lives in the child folder. done.That said, if i want to adjust the css styling for an element and that element’s css resides in say the ‘layout.css’ – does the style.css in the child theme folder take priority over this file and all other .css files in the parent folder or do i need to copy the ‘layout.css’ file to my child folder and make adjustments on this ‘layout.css copy’?
quick css
i see on the forum various replies suggesting adding brief css changes in the quick css field (styling tab). based on your reply i assume any css changes made via quick css are also recorded in the main WP DB and so remain safe from future updates. is this correct? or are they written to the style.css file in the child folder when you are using a child theme?thanks in advance for your reply.
