Hi Rickard,
Thank you for responding so quickly!
1. Do backups and set up a copy and test first in a staging area? Will do.
2. Should I do the WP updates first? Then the new Enfold theme?
2A: If WP first, should I switch the site theme to something generic, like maybe WordPress Twenty-Twenty, while updating WP itself. And then switch to the latest Enfold theme once WP is fully up-to-date? Or can I just leave the old Enfold 4.0.2 in place until I get WP fully updated?
2B: If I should install the new theme first, can I do that on top of the current WP 4.7.21? Or do I need to get WP updated to a certain version before switching to the current Enfold version?
3. I am comfortable doing the theme update manually via ftp.
Best Regards,
BrianSolved (for now), BUT . . .
By searching your Support Archives for other instances of the error message “ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS” I found a 2012 post about this being caused by a “Custom” setting for Permalinks. When I looked at my site I found, to my surprise, that I had a “custom” setting. I did not create it. It was:
I changed that to “Numeric,” saved it, reloaded the site and the problem had cleared. I can now view Portfolio Items as expected.
This is good, BUT — I did not set up that “CUSTOM” permalink structure. Presumably that was a default of either Enfold or the imported demo data, or both. Obviously that’s a problem if you set, by default, a value that corrupts your functionality.
I also wonder if this problem is only for this particular custom structure, or for any “custom” permalink structure. If the latter, that’s not good, as customizing permalink structure can be a legitimate part of SEO work.
Additional Info: I have no active plugins, other than four “must use” plugins:
– Endurance Browser Cache
– Endurance Page Cache
– Endurance PHP Edge
– SSO -
