I’m currently running 4.2.2, but when I update to 4.4.1 the site crashes and I get the following error message:
500: Internal server error
This error is generated when a script running on the server could not be implemented or permissions are incorrectly assigned for files or directories
Troubleshooting suggestions:
Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists.
Ensure that any CGI or Perl scripts have at least .755. permissions.
If trying to run PHP and you get this error, you may have an invalid php.ini in your /cgi-bin, or may be missing your php.dat file in this folder.
When I reload the older Enfold version 4.2.2 via FTP the site works fine. This occurs when trying to update to 4.4.1 on multiple Enfold websites I’ve developed, all sites crash when updating. I created a fresh database/test site from the latest version of WordPress and the problem persists. Can you please help me resolve this issue?
Hey MVMarketing,
Sorry for the problems. That is likely because a few files have moved within the theme between those releases. Could you try to completely delete the theme folder from the server via FTP, then re-upload the new version to see if that works please?
Best regards,
Rikard
Thanks for your response Rikard. I’ve actually done that previously and did so with the new test site, to no avail. So I resorted to the forum. Any other suggestions?
Hi,
Thank you for the update. Please upload the latest version in the test or dev site so that we can activate it. Enable the error logs so that we could get more info about the issue.

Did you try to purge the cache after the update? You may also need to disable the theme’s css and js compression in the Performance panel.
Best regards,
Ismael
