Hi there
I’m working on a site which required an update of the enfold travel theme. However now that I’ve done this I’m no longer able to edit the page? the layout builder is not active?
May 11, 2018 at 12:26 pm #955226Hey lkulube,
I see that the editor is not showing, yet there are no errors in the console. Try disabling your plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.Best regards,
MikeMay 11, 2018 at 1:34 pm #955277Hi Mike,
Thanks for responding.
I’ve disabled all the plugins and checked but still have the same issue. I’ve subsequently reactivated the plugins one my one but still the same.
Is there something else I can try in order to restore editing capability?
May 12, 2018 at 7:38 am #955583Hi lkulube,
Could you please enable the Advanced Layout Builder debug mode. Here is how to do it: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/enable-advanced-layout-builder-debug/
If you need further assistance please let us know.
Best regards,
VictoriaMay 12, 2018 at 3:06 pm #955759Thanks Victoria,
I’ve enabled the debug mode. The layout builder is still disabled but now I see all the code that built the page.
I’m not a developer so really cant code well and need the builder. Am I doing something incorrectly?
May 12, 2018 at 4:44 pm #955785Hi,
Thank you for that, I believe Victoria was hoping the shortcode parser, which you have enable, was going to show the error, but I looked and saw none. Our goal is to get the builder back up for you.
Can I ask how you updated the theme, FTP? If so did you delete the enfold theme folder first, or did you try to overwrite the old theme files? Overwriting the folder will brake the theme as it leaves old files in the directory, but it typically shows as a different error.
Please try to update the theme again via FTP, and delete the theme folder first.
If that doesn’t help, please try to update your PHP to v7 via your webhost cPanel. Just to rule that out.
If that doesn’t help, please include ftp access in the Private Content area, I’d like to see your .htaccess file.Best regards,
MikeMay 12, 2018 at 4:55 pm #955790Hi Mike – I appreciate the active support.
I updated the theme in the WP backend where the update notifications are usually flagged. I don’t log into FTP to perform updates.
If I update the theme in FTP by deleting the theme folder will work not be lost? I’m in the final stages of building this site and would be set back quite a bit if work is lost.
I’ve given access details to cpanel which would give you access to the file manger..
May 12, 2018 at 5:34 pm #955799Hi,
Thanks for the cPanel login, but it didn’t work for me, please check, or perhaps your webhost is blocking USA IP’s?
I tried using a VPN but it failed in other countries also, my .za VPN is not working today.
You should not lose any work as long as you didn’t edit the theme files directly, you can also rename the theme folder to /enfold-old/ and upload a new /enfold/ to test. I would do this for you but I couldn’t login, can you create a FTP access?
Here’s how in the average cPanelBest regards,
MikeMay 12, 2018 at 5:44 pm #955801Thanks Mike,
For fear of sending you details that don’t work and respecting your time, please would you access the Cpanel & File Manager that way that I do? I’ve shared full details of this.
May 12, 2018 at 5:45 pm #955802I’ve also shared backend details to the site should you need this.
I cant thank you enough Mike!
May 12, 2018 at 7:23 pm #955823Hi,
Thank you for the login, I was able to login.
I tried re-uploading the theme, without success.
I also tried rolling back to a older version such as v4.3.0 & v4.2.6 without success. Which version did you update from?
I also tried updating your PHP to v7.0, without success.
I will ask the rest of the team to take a look, because rolling back to the older version should have worked.
Thanks for your patience.Best regards,
MikeMay 12, 2018 at 7:51 pm #955828I generally log in to all the sites I manage every 2nd week to update plugins & themes, therefore I would’ve updated from the most recent release prior to the latest one.
This is the only one of about 6 websites that is having this issue, unfortunately the I need to close off most urgently as the client is ready to launch.
Again – I appreciate yours and the teams assistance.
May 12, 2018 at 8:07 pm #955836Would a last resort call for deleting & reinstalling the theme? Would this perhaps help “reset” it?
As long as all the plugins I’ve installed are intact, I’d be able to rebuild this site as its a reasonable amount of content. Painful but possible.
May 12, 2018 at 8:41 pm #955844Hi,
I’m not sure that would help you, I had renamed the theme and uploaded the last 3 versions without it working, which would be the same as deleting or resetting. I see you use the All-in-One WP Migration plugin, so it would be easy to try a copy of it on another server, are all of your sites on the same server / host? If you have another you could test on a sub-domain, or on a localhost.Best regards,
MikeMay 12, 2018 at 8:55 pm #955846I’ll reach out to the hosting provider to assist with this – this may be something within their scope of solution as they managed the server.
Please don’t close the ticket – I’ll keep in touch with an update regarding this.
May 12, 2018 at 9:01 pm #955848May 13, 2018 at 5:40 pm #956082Hi Mike + Victoria,
**update** I spoke with the hosting provider re hosting the domain on a different server of subdomain and they advised that current the sateen on a shard server, therefore changing this aspect may not make a difference.
We then restored a back up from about a week before the recent update, which was successfully completed hit morning (South Africa time) and all the functions restored. From here I updated and added plugins and themes one-by-one, checking the Layout Builder functionality after each update. There is one more external plugin (payment gateway) that I need to install with help from the provider tomorrow morning – if this update is successful and the Layout Builder is still active then I guess we can account the issue that I had had to a “bad bug”. I’m hoping this will be the case and all will remain well.
I’ll be in touch with an update in the next couple of hours.
I thank both for your support so far!
May 13, 2018 at 7:20 pm #956101Hi,
This is good news, thanks for keeping us up to date, we look forward to hearing the final outcome.Best regards,
MikeMay 16, 2018 at 1:39 pm #957484Hello all
Just an update on this thread. I reached out to the hosting company to restore an old back up of the website in the hopes that this will restore the functions. Fortunately this worked out and I’ve been able to edit the site again.
I’m really weary of performing theme updates since this (and another issue I’m having which I’ll log a separate ticket for).
The project was signed off and site owner is very happy with the outcome.
Thanks again for your hep re this :) Its much appreciated.
May 17, 2018 at 3:16 am #957870Hi,
Thanks for the update, we are happy this worked out, and sorry for the interruption.
If I might make a suggestion, some members have found that using the staging site option with their hosts allow them to test updates with themes & plugins.
Most cPanel’s offer this:
Also if you find that you don’t want a client to update, there are functions that you can use as well as plugins
Hope this helps, unless there is anything else with this issue, shall we close this then?Best regards,
MikeMay 17, 2018 at 9:57 am #958059Thank you Mike,
I’ll definitely try the staging site out! This will really help me secure test out how any changes will impact the site. I think this thread and the new thread I opened yesterday has me shook up enough – all because of untested updates.
You may close the thread. I thank you again.
