…that isn’t a short code. Would you know of one please?I can’t seem to find one other than WooCommerce Category Slider which requires a short code which is a huge pain. Many thanks.

Do you have a lot of categories? There’s a workaround where you won’t be needing a plugin. The portfolio items has a custom option where you can add an external link. You can create a portfolio item for each product category and then use the post slider element to display the portfolio entries taxonomy.
