I can import Minimal Portfolio Demo as well as Startup Business Demo no problem. However Default Demo and Enfold 2017 won’t import. Enfold 2017 come up with a long scroll list of messages after the import “Menu item skipped due to invalid menu slug: main-menu” and this is the one I’d like to start with. What is the difference? Where can I start to diagnose this?
    Cheers

    Hey id8872,
Which webhost are you using, is it a managed wordpress host?
Are you using settings like this:
    PHP Version: 7.0.x
    PHP Time Limit: No limit
    PHP Memory Limit: 256M
    PHP Post Max Size: 50M
    PHP Max Upload Size: 20M

Are you working on one site, or many? Perhaps we can assist with a manual import.

    Best regards,
    Mike

No, a self hosted site and a default php install.
Thanks I’ll look into the php settings

Different error messages that flashed too fast to read but no demo imported still.
Just one site and I’d appreciate some manual import assistance.

    Hi,

    @id8872
If you include the admin login & FTP login in the Private Content area I can try a manual install of the 2017 Demo.
Please note that you will lose all content, setting, users, etc. After the install I will naturally add your user as admin.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    #952447

No, I don’t think that’s going to fly

    #952450

    Hi,
Is this because you have begun adding content?

    Best regards,
    Mike

Partly content, and partly because I dont want to audit everything you do, and partly because I won’t learn anything from that approach

    Hi,

    @id8872

    Ok, I can understand that.
So to do it yourself, install WordPress & Enfold on a localhost, & then install the demo you wish.
Then upload all of the files in /wp-content/uploads/ from your localhost via FTP to your live site, then push your database from your localhost to your live site using this plugin.
Read the plugin site on how to use it.

One other option is to install the demo on a localhost, FTP the files, and use this plugin to save your database, and then use it in PHPmyAdmin to replace your live site database. Mostly the same steps, only the first plugin is easier.

I have found that installing the demo on a localhost works 100% of the time, and using the plugin to push the database work about 95% of the time, of the sites that the user could not install the demo themselves.

I found that some managed WP hosts, have made many changes to permissions, firewalls, & security scripts so that the demo install either throws a false positive or permissions are not allowed or the process times out, such as “Godaddy Managed WP”
Some hosts, such as Strato webhost, refuse to assist in debugging the issue. Although using these steps above have worked on Strato 100% of the time so far.

I firmly believe that the issue is with the webhost not allowing the demo import, a localhost import works 100% of the time… with the correct minimum settings.

    PHP Version: 5.6.x
    PHP Time Limit:	No limit
    PHP Memory Limit: 256M
    PHP Post Max Size: 50M
    PHP Max Upload Size: 20M

Please try this for yourself, I hope this helps, as always are happy to assist.

    Best regards,
    Mike

In your new thread please provide admin login & FTP login info and the demo you would like installed, so it will be clear. Please make the title: “Help with Demo Import” I will look for it later and try to assist. Also please include which webhost you are using.
Please note that you will lose all content, setting, users, etc. You will be given a new admin login based on the login details you give.

No joy. New instance of server, wp still set for localhost, php upgraded as above… still get menu-slug message on import.
I think enfold isn’t for me and has taken up too much of my time. I’m going back to what I’m familiar with

    #954254

    Hi,
Sorry to hear that, what type of localhost did you try to use mamp, xampp, wamp?

    Best regards,
    Mike

    #954897

No LAMP. gave it one last complete new build with same errors

    #954950

    Hi,
Do you use a firewall? This is strange because I use a portable wamp, and import the demo about 3 times a week. Here’s the settings I use:
    2018-05-10_185301
I imagine how frustrating this must be for you, I’m willing to try importing this for you the way I described earlier so you can start working on your site. I know you said no, but I wanted to offer again.

    Best regards,
    Mike
