Hi!
I want to update a site to the latest version of the theme. I have downloaded the zip-files, opened them and installed the new map on the ftp. But ah – the site disappears… Fortunately I hade done a backup and could install the old version again. But what could be done to succeed with installing the new version?Best regards,

Sorry for the problems. Did you see any error messages when that happened? Do you know what version of PHP you are running on your server?
Best regards,

You uploaded only google_maps.php and leave the rest untouched. Or is that a commen phrase that I as a German are not familiar with, and you mean “Then I uploaded the whole thing” – i’m a bit confused.April 19, 2018 at 9:53 am #943992Hi!
Sorry for the confusion. My mistake.
I have downloaded the zip-files, opened them and installed the new theme-folder on the ftp. But ah – the site disappears… Fortunately I hade done a backup and could install the old version again. But what could be done to succeed with installing the new version?Hope it is clearer now.
April 19, 2018 at 11:27 am #944043so how do you upload the new folder?
did you erase the old one – or renamed it – or (my suggestion) drag and drop the new enfold folder to your directory and overwrite existing files. In this case it is clear for me what happend.
New Enfold has a bit rearanged folder structure – especially in the config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes folder.
A lot of those shortcodes are now in subfolders ! – so what happend on pulling the new enfold over the old one.
There are now two shortcodes f.e. for buttons, iconboxes, iconlists etc.
This maybe the reason for that mismatch.i always do update via ftp and my advice is:
1) rename enfold folder to enfold-old folder
2) upload the new enfold folder
3) test your page if everything works fine
4) in case of whitescreen or other crashes – you can erase the enfold folder – and rename the enfold-old folder back to enfold
5) so that is your fall-back included if something went wrongApril 19, 2018 at 11:37 am #944052This reply has been marked as private.April 19, 2018 at 5:08 pm #944187Sorry Merilla – i can not see private content as a Participant as you – so wait for mod please
April 22, 2018 at 3:59 pm #945054Hi,
If I’m understanding what you did correctly, the reason the new theme crashed was because you tried to “update” the theme folder, instead of “replacing” it.
We are making so major changes to the theme’s directory and file structure, trying to “update” the theme folder leaves old files behind that will brake the theme. Please try to do what Guenni007 suggested, rename the “enfold” folder in /wp-content/themes/ to “enfold-old” via FTP, then upload the new “enfold” folder, once you see the new “enfold” is working on the front end, you can delete the “enfold-old” folder via FTP.
Otherwise if it doesn’t work, rename the new enfold folder to “enfold-new” and rename the “enfold-old” back to “enfold” and let us know.Best regards,
MikeApril 27, 2018 at 12:44 am #947537well – on former days i had to say that i often updated WordPress this way.
The changelog was in most cases very pecise which files and folders are changed. But today – in times where a lot of people have gigabit internet connections the upload of a whole thing is in the most cases much faster than to pick out the changings. And by this procedure you have always a rollback – do a lot of postings here on board would not be necessary.
