    Hello,

Just updated Enfold Child and immediately lost the website with an HTTP 500 error. Could you please take a look? I’m at a loss as to how to correct this. Thank you.

    Hey sailboat907,

If you recently updated enfold theme to 4.2.6 and get an HTTP 500 error do not worry your data will be 100% safe in the WordPress database.

Please perform the below steps to resolve this issue:

    1. If you can log in to WordPress backend please deactivate all plugins.

    2. Update the PHP version being used by your hosting server to PHP 7 by getting in touch with your hosting company.

Access your site with FTP or log in to your control panel and access the site via File Manager and perform the below steps:

    3. Replace the header.php file in wp-content/themes/enfold folder with an updated version of the header.php file.

    4. Access your WordPress site root folder and rename the current .htaccess file to .htaccess.bak. Login to WordPress admin area go to settings > permalinks > select “Post name” and save changes.

    5. Define a higher memory limit in WordPress and if possible increasing the memory on the hosting server.

To increase the WordPress memory limit please access wp-config.php file and add the below line

    define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

For a detailed explanation please check this link http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP
and you can contact your service provider to increase the memory limit.

If none of the above works for you please go ahead and delete the “enfold” folder in wp-content/themes/ and upload a fresh copy of the “enfold” theme files.

    Best regards,
    Vinay

This update is causing all of my Enfold sites to go down. Even my major hosts are not offering PHP 7 to Managed WordPress accounts. I will have to not update any more of my sites.

    Hi annameis,

You can still be running php5.6.3. Just rename the old Enfold folder and upload a fresh copy via ftp and you should be fine.

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi,
I logged into your cPanel and went to change your PHP version, but before I did anything I saw that the tool warned “Cannot open /home5/smoothee/public_html/.htaccess for reading. Please contact support.”
I recommend having bluehost support look at this.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi,

Your .htaccess ahs to be 775 form default, for WordPress to work ( and other folders also ).
Cold you please check with hosting provider so everything functions perfectly form that side?

Due to the update my site has been down for over a week. I’m losing hope that it will ever be fixed.

    Hey,

I replaced header.php file of the theme to make it backwards compatible with older versions of PHP and flushed cache. Please review your website :)

    Hi There,

I’m having this same issue. I followed all the steps outlined by Vinay and also did a clean install of enfold via ftp.

Bluehost is my host, and looking on the backend, the php version is 5.4.24

Wondering what the next steps are?
