Had an issue where my website wouldn’t display at all. Tried debugging and eventually deleted everything, reinstalled wordpress and then enfold. I imported the “Coming Soon” sample to start my page over as a new business. I have done nothing else and when I try to go to the webpage to see how the basic coming soon sample looked, I get the following error:
Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home3/leehoy/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/header.php on line 6
Thanks,
Lee

March 22, 2018 at 2:27 pm #931308I’ve managed to update the php version to 7.2 in cpanel and the website is back up…
thanks a lot for the assistance.March 22, 2018 at 2:53 pm #931341Hi!
Sorry for the inconvenience! Issue occurs on servers running PHP versions older than 5.6. You can either upgrade your PHP version to minimum 5.6 and preferably to 7.x or replace /wp-content/themes/enfold/header.php file with this one – https://www.dropbox.com/s/r389b5x4ippscyn/header.php?dl=0 to bring up backwards compatibility with older PHP versions.
Best regards,
YigitApril 19, 2018 at 4:40 pm #944164I too am having this issue after doing a theme update. I have upgraded my php to 5.6 and still having the issue. Please provide a solution immediately. Thank you in advance.
UPDATE: I replaced my header.php file with the one provided in the link above and it fixed the issue. My website is now live again.
Please advise, is this a permanent fix or just a bandaid? I have updated to pvp5.6 and replaced my header.php file. Can I forget about this with confidence?
website is in the private content below.
