I received an email stating an update is available for Enfold. I am ok with FTP – is this the best route?

Also – Should I create a child theme and get this working first? I have not made any changes to any php files, or css files, as yet. However, maybe in the future…

I do have some quick CSS in place – should I copy the styles file to the child theme first, then add this css code into the styles file in the child theme?

Will all my settings in the control panel still be effective after the update?

This is the first time I am considering using a child theme – just looking for some guidance to save some time and prevent any glitches.

Child theme is usually a good idea, but as long as you have any css saved in the custom section. You are ok. AN update does not effect these custom css. A child theme is great if you are editing .php files. If not, there really isn’t a need for a child theme in my personal opinion and that of other developers I know.
I wouldn’t update your theme quite yet, if you read several of the other posts, you will see there have been some issues with the update and sites disappearing.

Always make a back up before you do any update!!! I use the All in one Migration Plugin to do my backups.

Sorry – one more question. When I ftp the files for the update to the parent theme, I assume I just ftp the files over, and the current ones will be replaced? Is there a need to delete the old files first?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

No, if your FTP setting permit, the new files will overwrite the old.

    Best regards,
