My website is experiencing editing and update problems which I believe to be caused by TinyMCE errors – see below.

December 19, 2017 at 7:21 am #890352Hey Kate_McCulla,
Thanks for the login details, though I’m not sure what the user name is to log in?
Best regards,
RikardDecember 19, 2017 at 10:43 am #890396Apologies for oversight Rikard. See username in private content box..
December 20, 2017 at 2:56 pm #890783Hi Kate_McCulla,
You need to be running at least php 5.6.3. Please update.
Best regards,
VictoriaDecember 20, 2017 at 11:46 pm #890947Thank you. However, I have no idea how to do this. Please advise.
December 21, 2017 at 12:35 pm #891115Hi,
Your hosting provider should be able to help you out with that, otherwise it’s likely that you can set that if you log into your hosting account. 5.6 is the lowest recommended version of PHP to run WordPress itself on.
Best regards,
RikardDecember 22, 2017 at 1:34 pm #891568Hi, now running php 7.2 however editing problem persists. See page TestKM as current example of problem.
December 23, 2017 at 5:28 am #891790Hi,
Thanks for the feedback, I can still see the problem on my end as well, though I’m not sure what is causing it unfortunately. Did you try to disable all plugins to see if there is conflict? Did these problems happen after you migrated the site? If so then you might have to migrate it again since something might have gone wrong in that process.
You can also try to overwrite the theme files with a fresh copy from your Themeforest account via FTP to see if that helps: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/
Best regards,
RikardDecember 23, 2017 at 7:19 pm #891843Thank you. I will consider all of the above. When you ask if the problems happened after site migration, do you mean from http to https?
December 24, 2017 at 6:42 am #891924Hi,
Ok great, hope one of those measures resolves the problem. What I mean by migration would be from a local or staging server, why I’m asking is because I saw that you have a migration plugin active and sometimes migrations can corrupt files and you would have to do it again to overwrite everything again.
Best regards,
RikardDecember 24, 2017 at 7:47 pm #891953Thanks – there is a migration plugin active, but the site has never been migrated so this is not the problem. The problem occurred after applying an SSL certificate, updating a few plugins and updating Enfold theme so if you are confident there is no issue with the Enfold theme (although please confirm this) then one of the other things may be the cause. Thanks for help to date and Merry Christmas!
December 26, 2017 at 2:31 pm #892038Hi Kate,
I can’t say for sure that it’s not a problem with the theme, but it’s very unlikely since you are the only user who has had this problem to my knowledge. Please try the suggestions I posted earlier and let’s hope you find the cause that way. We’ll keep the thread open in case you should need any further help.
Merry Christmas to you too :-)

RikardJanuary 2, 2018 at 1:25 pm #892469Hi,
After multiple tests on the website, the spinning editor wheel persists. See most recent test pages 281217a / 281217b / 291217a.
The following have been excluded as the cause of the problem:
NOT Internet Service Provider – error occurred using 3 different providers
NOT browser specific – error occurred on 3 different browsers
NOT PC specific – error occurred on 3 different PC’s
NOT php – error occurs after update to 7.2
NOT plugin problem – disabled ALL plugins, created test page. Successful built / update initially, ultimate error
Theme overwrite did NOT resolve problem. If of any significance, the test pages 281217a / 281217b / 291217a all built successfully UP TO THE SAME POINT. (See test page 291217ai – this shows the extent of successful page build. Editing beyond this point (ie adding a final paragraph of text only) has mostly resulted in a perpetual spinning editor wheel, and (only occasionally) a “Connection Lost” message despite strong internet connection.
Thanks for your help to date, but unfortunately the problem persists. I would appreciate your advice re next testing stage.
January 3, 2018 at 1:22 pm #892808Hi Kate_McCulla,
Can you please increase the values for PHP Post Max Size and PHP Max Upload Size? Those are very low on your installation.
https://kriesi.at/support/topic/failed-to-load-resource-the-server-responded-with-a-status-of-403-forbidden/#post-798773If you need further assistance please let us know.
Best regards,
VictoriaJanuary 9, 2018 at 1:11 pm #895220Thank you. PHP Post Max Size and PHP Max Upload Size increased. Unfortunately, the problem persists.
Please advise re next stage. Regards, KateJanuary 12, 2018 at 10:43 am #896496Hi,
Thank you for the update. Is this happening on a specific page? I created a test page but I can’t reproduce the issue. The editor is working properly without lagging or anything. (see private field)
Best regards,
IsmaelJanuary 12, 2018 at 11:29 am #896529Thanks – the issue is not specific to one page – you will see several test pages on the site with the same issue – eg 281217a / 281217b / 291217a among others. I’m aware I can successfully build a page structure as you did on your test page. The issue arises on adding text to the page. I can add and update minimal text (refer post #892469 on 02/01/2018 for more detail) but when I added a paragraph of only 224 words to your test page, I’m again left with an uneditable page / spinning editor wheel. The problem is related to adding text.
January 13, 2018 at 4:51 am #896808Hi,
Please provide an example of the text on pastebin.com so that we can test it on our own installation. Did you copy it from somewhere else? Does it contain html?
Best regards,
IsmaelJanuary 14, 2018 at 1:35 pm #897081Text put on pastebin (details in Private Content). No html. No difference if I type it directly onto site page or copy/paste unformatted version. As per previous communication, I can add text in small sections, save and update successfully, but consistent update failure on adding the last paragraph.
Thanks for ongoing help.January 15, 2018 at 4:18 am #897336Hi,
Thank you for the update. The same set of texts are working properly on my installation.

I’m still not sure why it’s breaking the editor in your installation. Is it OK if we deactivate the plugins while we work on the site?
Best regards,
IsmaelJanuary 15, 2018 at 11:56 am #897482Thanks – you might find if you add headings and formatting to the text, it fails.
However, when I select edit on the page you screenshot above, I see only another spinning editor wheel – how can we be seeing 2 different things when looking at the same page?
See screenshot at https://justpaste.it/1fpwf
Yes, happy for you to deactivate plugins, but that was suggested and tested some time ago, I still got spinning editor wheels.
Thanks for help, KateJanuary 16, 2018 at 2:24 am #897803Hi,
The screenshot is from my own installation. Please switch the builder to debug mode first.
// https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/enable-advanced-layout-builder-debug/
I’m trying to enable the debug mode in the functions.php file via the Appearance > Editor but I’m getting an error.
Best regards,
IsmaelJanuary 16, 2018 at 11:14 pm #898183Builder switched to debug mode as instructed above. Thanks, K
January 17, 2018 at 8:02 am #898325Hi,
Thank you for the update. The whitespaces caused the issue. I removed those and the page started to work again. ( see private field )
Best regards,
IsmaelJanuary 17, 2018 at 6:44 pm #898618Thanks Ismael, Unfortunately the problem remains. I just tried another test page – title 170118. See screenshot at https://justpaste.it/1ftqx
No message received in private field (reference above).
Please advise re next steps. Thank you, KateJanuary 20, 2018 at 3:36 am #899950Hi,
Alright. Are you using the same texts? Did you remove the white spaces or line breaks?
Best regards,
IsmaelJanuary 20, 2018 at 9:38 pm #900192Yes – always the same text – exactly as provided in reply #897081. Always add text in visual mode – so no, I do not change any white spaces etc.
See most recent test pages 200118 and 200118Duplicate.
I have learnt from much test page experience to date (Always with same text) that I can add text up to the point shown in 200118. After this point, I duplicated page (200118Duplicate), added additional 1 sentence text and get the messages included in private text box below, and end result was spinning editor wheel. This problem has been ongoing since the end of November 2017, and this thread open since 18/12/17. Many suggestions have been tested, and I appreciate them all, but am at the point where I really need some resolution so please let me know what other information may be helpful. Thank you, K
January 22, 2018 at 4:02 am #900537Hi,
I’m not sure what’s wrong with your installation or with the texts but if you remove the whitespaces from the copied text just like what I did previously, the builder still works properly.
Best regards,
IsmaelJanuary 22, 2018 at 11:49 am #900757I’m not sure what you mean by removing the whitespaces, and do not know what you did previously – please clarify.
In the latest example page 200118 and 200118Duplicate, I did not use copied text. I typed it in directly – same outcome.
If you could guide me re what exact whitespaces need removed, I will try it BUT this does not address why white space errors are occurring in the first place??
Thanks, KJanuary 22, 2018 at 7:06 pm #900939Further to message above – I had previously held back from adding further material to my site until this problem was resolved.
However, I added a blog post today (in Default Editor) and all went fine.
I then added a page in Default Editor (see 220118) and this too updated fine. While updating both in stages, I got “Error while saving” messages at the bottom of the screen. However, both updated successfully.
This suggests that the error is occurring only in Advanced Layout Editor (which all the current live pages are built on) if this helps direct attention to the problem.
Thanks, Kate -
