I am currently using the top bar on a site build. On the left, within the Extra Info section, I have a tagline. On the right, using the Secondary menu, I have a Call Us link with a tel: link. We want to replace both with css buttons I am planning to make with a plugin named Max Buttons.

Will both the Extra Info data entry field in the Header section and the Secondary Menu entry area accept shortcodes?

    Hey crtdude,

Please refer to the following on adding a widget area to the header, and then expands on adding it to the top bar:

So, in short, the extra info field will take a shortcode generated by a plugin without any extraneous css changes?

What about using a shortcode within the secondary menu at the top right? Need specifics on how to do this.

    Hi,

You can add the widget area to the header, and add the shortcode into the widget.

Jordan, thanks for replying but it seems you’re not understanding WHERE I want the button. The links you sent refer to the Extra ELEMENTS of the topbar. What I want is the shortcode as the sole element in the Secondary menu at the right. I want the same style button as you see on the left where I have “testing” on the right in the secondary menu.

And I tried what you said about adding a widget to the header, it did it below the top bar. I want the shortcode button to render EXACTLY where the testing word is shown on the right. The shortcode I added on the Extra Info /phone area on the left took the first time around.
This is getting old, this should just work right out of the box.

    Hi crtdude,

In that case, you will need to look into templates and modify the code.

Unfortunately, it would require quite some time and customization of the theme to achieve this, so I am sorry to tell you that this is not covered by our support. However, if it’s really important for you to get this done, you can always hire a freelancer to do the job for you :)

Actually, I’ve seen a user adding html and even php code added to the tel field and it was executed. Not very reasonable, but can be done.

If you need further assistance please let us know.

Thanks for replying Victoria but this has absolutely nothing to do with coding of a tel: link.
The issue remains that there is no way to get a shortcode to work as a menu item in the secondary menu. If you have a solution, I am all ears.

However, when I get sent to links to add widgets to the header, and that have nothing to do whatsoever with what I am trying to do, it is a problem. That topic referenced HEADER > EXTRA ELEMENTS > HEADER SECONDARY MENU > “Phone Number or small info text- AREA” ultimately which is NOT what I am speaking about. That button I placed worked just fine.

    Hi crtdude,

Could you please attach a mockup of what you’re trying to achieve?

It’s already in #881407 above. There’s a screenshot. I want the same thing that I have on the left done on the right where there is only a text link

    Hi crtdude,

Well, what can I say, the easiest way to do it, is to put it directly in the code. In header file or helper-main-menu and copy the file into your child theme.

    Best regards,
    Victoria
