Adding Image Banner to Product Category

1. I’ve been trying to get this to work for a while now, and can’t find a solution. I stumbled across this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/custom-headers-on-product-categories-pages/?login_error

But, was a bit confused as to what worked. Can you please help me add an image banner to the individual product category pages. I only have 2 product categories.

2. How do I hide the sorting and filtering on the product category pages?
