Hi, gang…
I’m so frustrated right now. Tried to do a theme update via the Enfold theme settings from 4.0.7 to 4.1.2, but kept getting “handshake failure” error…Maybe because of older version of PHP.
Decided to manually update via FTP. Before doing so, I always rename the old Enfold folder, then I upload the newer version and make sure it works before deleting the old installation. Good thing I did cuz 4.1.2 broke the site because of an error in a file for LayerSlider, which I don’t even use.
Renamed the folder again to reactivate the old Enfold version, and now all settings are wiped out in both the parent and child themes. Looks like a fresh install of Enfold. I even tried restoring my database, and that did nothing to change it.
Another issue is also going on: A page with Portfolio Grids is throwing a 403 error all of a sudden. No idea why. All other pages can be accessed with no problem.
I see so many posts from people who have this same stupid problem when updating Enfold…all their settings disappear. Every time I try to update, it’s a huge hassle. It makes me wonder why this is the only theme I have this problem with and why I continue to use it.
Right now, I’ve turned Maintenance Mode on the site since it’s basically broken. I need help ASAP to restore the site to how it’s supposed to look…Restyling the site from a clean slate is not a viable option. Can you please direct me? I have backups from before this problem occurred.

Which version of php are you running?
If you are not using Layer Slider, you can deactivate it. Here is how to do itYou have to be running at least php5.6, but php7 would be better.
Best regards,

I don’t care at all about LayerSlider. What I care about is restoring the theme settings that have been wiped out of both the parent and child themes. As I said, everything now looks like a fresh install of Enfold.
Please read my above post carefully along with the private info I sent.
October 23, 2017 at 5:56 am #867454Hi,
If you rename the theme folder then yes, your settings will be lost. I’m not sure if it will work but naming it back to the exact name might work. A question though; why do you have to rename the folder? Also, there is functionality for exporting/importing your settings in the theme, maybe you could try to play it safe next time and use that functionality?
Best regards,
Rikard -
