Hi,
I’ve been having an ongoing problem for several months now where I try to update plugins or the theme, and it crashes the site. When I talk to GoDaddy they say it’s something with the theme.Apparently when I try to update plugins, it creates a dot maintenance file on the server that hangs the site up. When I try to update the theme it does the same thing, but when GoDaddy removes that file, there is just a blank white screen for the site. So, then we have to revert to a back up from the day before.
I really need to be able to update plugins and theme. Would you please be able to offer any insight on the problem? Am I using a plugin that’s not compatible, or is there something at issue with the theme?
This has been going on since April.
I am about to pull my hair out and any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Thank you very much!!!!

Thank you for the response, but that has nothing to do with my problem. My problem is that I am unable to update plugins or the theme without it causing major problems. Godaddy says it’s a problem with the theme. I am wondering if anyone has come across this problem with the theme or with the theme in conjunction with the plugins on the site.
When I try to update anything, the site goes into maintenance mode. According to Godaddy it also creates a dot maintenance file on the server (as I guess it’s supposed to when updating), but it never goes away.
Somehow I need to get past this. Please – someone help! Thank you!
August 10, 2017 at 9:26 am #836841Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. Could you try switching to one of the default themes, like TwentySeventeen, and update the plugins when that is active to see if that works? If it doesn’t then it’s likely not theme related.

I did that, and it still went into maintenance mode and the Enfold update and plugin updates failed.August 15, 2017 at 11:02 pm #839619It’s probably a plugin (perhaps w3 cache) not a theme causing the issues.
August 16, 2017 at 12:12 am #839650The only plugins I am using are Akismet, Insert Headers and Footers, Ninja Forms and Yoast. I had been using all of them before this started happening. Thoughts?
Thank you.August 16, 2017 at 7:07 am #839724Hi,
Thanks for the feedback, it could be anything really, but I don’t think it’s theme related since you get the same behaviour when Enfold is not active. I think your hosting provider would be in a better position to help you out with this to be honest. Could you try contacting them again since you now know that it’s not theme related?
Best regards,
Rikard -
