Hi
I am experiencing a HTTP ERROR 500 on this website http://copac.org.za – it seems to be an error with the Enfold theme.
Here are my troubleshooting steps:
1. Renamed .htaccess file – did not work
2. increased PHP memory limit – did not work
3. Renamed “wp-plugins” folder – did not work
4. Renamed “enfold” theme folder – website loads!
5. Updated to latest WordPress + updated all plugins
6. Changed “enfold” theme folder back to original name – website does not load. Therefore it is the theme causing an issue. Do you know what the issue might be?
Kind Regards
ChrisApril 24, 2017 at 3:09 pm #782332Sorry I solved the error. I had Enfold 4.0.4 installed and the current version is 4.0.5
But why would I get a HTTP 500 ERROR when it is only 1 version out of date?
Hope it doesn’t happen again because I really don’t want to go through this process every time I need to update
April 25, 2017 at 6:46 am #782668Hi Chris,
Great, glad you got it working and thanks for the feedback. A 500 error can basically be anything, so it’s very difficult to say what could have gone wrong. We’ll keep the thread open in case you should need any further help on the topic.

May 4, 2017 at 11:23 am #787712Hi Rikard
Unfortunately, we are having the same error as before. So I went into cPanel and renamed the “enfold” file to “enfold.s” to get the site is working again. So it definitely is an issue with the theme. The theme is up to date, so I don’t know what it could be.
Please, can you investigate this for me? I have posted all the login details previously.
May 4, 2017 at 7:01 pm #788006Hi ChrisSchutte,
You might want to look for server logs.
https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/55490/what-log-files-does-a-wordpress-installation-write-to
and or enable debug
https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/177637/no-error-log-file-no-debug-info
https://digwp.com/2009/07/monitor-php-errors-wordpress/
That way you will have a lot more info on what went wrong during update.
After enabling logging, try to update the theme again.Best regards,
VictoriaMay 4, 2017 at 7:31 pm #788021Hi Victoria
You have not read my post. We weren’t updating the site when this error occurred.
It happened randomly.
May 4, 2017 at 9:15 pm #788047Hi,
Sometimes, the server that you
re using doesn
t support the Enfold theme because of the capacity of the server. May you provide us your host information?Best regards,
John TorvikMay 11, 2017 at 11:56 am #791597Hi – I am not too sure of the server etc.
I have attached the Cpanel details, please could you check?
May 11, 2017 at 8:03 pm #791871Hi ChrisSchutte,
What I meant was, that you should enable logging and then proceed with installing or updating or activating the theme. that way the errors will be logged and it will be easier to solve them.
Here is the error in privateBest regards,
VictoriaMay 15, 2017 at 11:53 am #793262Hi Victoria
I had to rename the enfold folder to “enfold.s” to enable the site to load. That is how I know it is a theme error causing the error.
Your error log reflects that “enfold.s” name. So I am not sure if that messed up your test?
Please try again? We are still getting this HTTP 500 error and it is very frustrating. I have never experienced this with any other theme?
May 15, 2017 at 2:22 pm #793321Hi,
Thanks for providing the cpanel access, it should be fixed now and your site is up. There are few files missing which I added and that fixed the site. Let us know if it’s good on your end or still has some issues :)
Best regards,
NikkoMay 15, 2017 at 4:06 pm #793394Thanks Nikko
What was the error?
May 15, 2017 at 4:14 pm #793404Hi,
This file is missing: enfold/config-events-calendar/config.php. Let us know if you need more assistance or if we can close this thread :)

NikkoMay 16, 2017 at 6:03 pm #794201Hi All,
I’ve faced with the same error right after update my theme from 4.0.5 to 4.0.6 – http://newartcommunity.ru . Please, could you assist how to solve the issue? Should I try to reinstall the theme from the zip? Will all the setting be kept after reinstall?Thank you in advance.
May 16, 2017 at 8:51 pm #794449Hi,
Can you please update Enfold to the latest version 4.0.7 via FTP – kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/ and check if that helps?
@Alex I believe this was fixed on your installation. If you are still having issues, please start a new thread :)

YigitJune 12, 2017 at 2:02 pm #806886Hi All
The site is down again! I updated it to the latest Enfold theme last week and it was fine, and now it is down again.
Someone really needs to assist us with this. The site can’t keep crashing everythime there is an update.
Otherwise we will need a refund from Envato and we will have to buy another theme that is stable.
June 12, 2017 at 5:14 pm #806967Same problem here. Installed Enfold and also get the http 500 error when i want to view the site.
Also, when i disable enfold and do a live preview, all i see is a blanc page. The 500 error appears in google chrome, but on firefox the page shows totally white. Tried different standard theme’s and they all work well.June 12, 2017 at 9:25 pm #807085See my private debug content
June 13, 2017 at 3:22 pm #807515Hi Bert2,
/tmp has to be writable. You have to set the correct permissions.

VictoriaJune 13, 2017 at 3:23 pm #807516Hi ChrisSchutte,
Which php are you running? Do you have any errors in you logs?
Best regards,
VictoriaJune 14, 2017 at 11:22 am #807910Thank you for your support. I don’t know how to make /tmp writable or where to find it…..
The error in line 33 of masonry_entries.php states if(!is_admin() && !current_theme_supports(‘avia_no_session_support’) && !session_id()) session_start();June 14, 2017 at 1:38 pm #807960Hi my php and server details are below:
cPanel Version 64.0 (build 24)
Apache Version 2.2.31
PHP Version 5.6.30
MySQL Version 5.6.35The error log is attached (drop box link)
June 14, 2017 at 7:58 pm #808181Hi Bert2,
At that point the script tries to write some session data to a file in /tmp and it cannot. That’s why it fails. You can do it via FTP or cPanel.

VictoriaJune 14, 2017 at 8:02 pm #808183Hi ChrisSchutte,
Thanks for the log :)
The file config-bbpress/config.php is missing, that’s why it fails. Please, get a fresh copy and put it /wp-content/themes/enfold/config-bbpress/.
If you need further assistance please let us know.
Best regards,
VictoriaJune 15, 2017 at 8:06 am #808431Hi Victoria
Thank you that worked!
But why was that file not in there in the first place? I downloaded the latest Enfold theme and unpacked it directly into the Enfold folder – I didnt touch any files?
June 16, 2017 at 12:10 pm #808935Hi Victoria,
Located the /tmp folder and selected the read, write an execute options for the folder and all the files and directories in that folder.
Cleaned my cache and still same message. So no luck i’m afraid.June 18, 2017 at 4:39 pm #809572Hi,
What php version are you using?
Best regards,
BasilisJune 18, 2017 at 5:20 pm #809580At this moment php 5.3 but the domain will be transferred to php 5.6
June 20, 2017 at 2:13 pm #810359Hi ChrisSchutte,
I’ve seen cases like that, sometimes during update the file copying process fails or gets interrupted for various reasons and the outcome is that some files go missing.
Glad we worked it out! :)
If you need further assistance please let us know.
Best regards,
VictoriaJune 20, 2017 at 2:14 pm #810361Hi Bert2,
The issue might be gone once you transfer to php5.6, though php7 is highly recommended!
Best regards,
Victoria -
