Hi, please can you help me.
On my home page using enfold, apostrophe’s are showing up as question marks. ‘ = ?
I have checked to ensure the site is using utf-8 and i think it is.
I am unable to find out why this is occurring.
Other pages on the site are showing the apostrophe’s correctly, but if I create a new page and try it the problem persists. Thanks
Dave
April 5, 2017 at 11:47 pm #772897Hey daverogers,
Can you try to disable all plugins? and check if the issue is resolved. I noticed in special headings it changes but using text block doesn’t change ‘ to ?.
Best regards,
NikkoApril 6, 2017 at 12:05 am #772909Hi Nikko,
I deactivated all plugins and still the question mark is still shown.

April 9, 2017 at 8:57 pm #775113Hi Mike,
That has worked, but can you tell me why it is required?
The backend still shows a ? and not all pages turn apostrophe into a question mark.
I have updated the logon information for you.
Thanks,
DaveApril 9, 2017 at 9:50 pm #775130Hi,
Glad to hear it worked :) I suspect there is a plugin causing this, but it would require a lot of digging around, and right now I still can’t login :) If you find another issue in the future please remind us about this one, it could help us narrow it down :)Best regards,
MikeApril 10, 2017 at 11:41 am #775380Thanks Mike,
Does the link for log in in the private content work, i am able to login with it..
It would be great to get to the bottom of this. I have tried by deactivating all the plug ins previously.Thank you so much for your assistance.

April 14, 2017 at 1:17 pm #777800Hi, I was wondering if there was anyone who could help get to the bottom of this.
I have a work around from Mike, but having to put in ’ overtime instead of a ? is a pain, especially as the code is not saved and I have to enter it afresh every time the page is re-saved with new content.I have deactivated all plugins and still the issue remains.
Many thanks,Dave
April 14, 2017 at 6:42 pm #777955Hi,
does this happen with a default WP theme as well? please let us know about your results.
There might be some corrupted files, so please delete all theme files completely via FTP, before installing a fresh copy from your themeforest account. Here is a short tutorial on how to install the theme via FTP, in case you are not sure how that works:

AndyApril 14, 2017 at 10:33 pm #778086Hi Andy,
Thanks for the advice, before i proceed could I ask a couple of questions, if i change to another theme to test this, will selecting enfold after this again return my site to its current state?
If I then delete the enfold theme files and reinstall them, how much of my current site will be lost/need resetting up?Many thanks,
Dave
April 16, 2017 at 7:10 am #778383Hi,
1. Changing the theme will not affect the data and yes when you activate enfold it should return to the original state provided there were no modifications made to any php files using custom code when enfold was deactivated.
2. All your settings and page content are stored in database. Deleting the theme files and re-uploading will only change the way site looks however when you upload new files it should look the same as it was earlier :)

VinayApril 16, 2017 at 5:03 pm #778453Thank You so much for your help.
I have tried both options. When using another theme: WordPress Twenty Fifteen the apostrophe worked fine.
I then removed the enfold directory from the themes via FTP and rey-loaded the latest files and when activating enfold the ? instead of apostrophe issue returns.
I have no idea what is causing this issue, and as the problem goes away when using another theme, it does point towards enfold??Any assistance is very much appreciated.
Thanks,
DaveP.S. log on details to site and ftp are in private content.
April 17, 2017 at 12:16 pm #778640Hi,
I tried to reproduce the issue on my end, but this is not happening for me. When I use this inside my backend:
We?d <strong>love to </strong> hear from you.
then I see “We?d” instead of “We’d”. It’s weird that this is happening especially on your end and I guess it is caused by any customizations you’ve done. Did you modify functions.php or anything else? Please remove any customizations and custom code you’re using to check which one is causing this issue.
Did you replace all theme files with a fresh copy from your themeforest account?
Best regards,
AndyApril 17, 2017 at 12:30 pm #778651Hi Andy,
Thanks for looking, I have made no customisations to any .php files.
The only customisation is the css within the Enfold theme quick css box.
I also downloaded the latest files from themeforest, deleted the old enfold directory within themes and copied the new files in via ftp. so all the theme files should be new. This is very puzzling. Do you think the only way to fix it is a fresh wordpress install.. I’d really rather not have to do that :/
Thanks

April 17, 2017 at 1:12 pm #778667Hi,
yes, go ahead and re install WP by going to Dashboard->Updates->”Re-install Now”. You won’t lose any settings, however make a backup just in case.

AndyApril 17, 2017 at 3:37 pm #778753Hi Andy,
I backed up my site and reinstalled WordPress and still the issue exists. Argghh :-(
I’m really stumped.Dave
April 18, 2017 at 3:17 pm #779355Hi,
which php is your server using right now? please make sure to use at least php v7.0. Also ask your host about this issue, maybe they have some specific settings which are causing this issue, as it’s just happening on your end and for nobody else.
Best regards,
Andy -
