    Hi,

    For some reason any styles I add to my child theme do not work. If I put the same styles in the Quick CSS section they do work. I can edit the CSS in TextMate and see the changes in LiveStyle in Chrome. I save the CSS file to server and reload screen, changes no longer there. I open the CSS file again and everything is there but the styles are not applied to the site. I copy and paste the entire content of enfold_child/styles.css to Quick Styles in theme options. Save and now I have changes. I’d rather not use this workflow. Can you tell me why styles.css is not working in child theme and how to fix?

    My server is pretty fresh. 1 click install of WordPress on DigitalOcean droplet. No other plugins are installed or active. Just Enfold theme. 4.0.4 and Enfold Child.

    Thanks.

    Sorry 1 plugin “Easy Twitter Feed Widget”. Deactivated and issue is still there.

    Hi,
    there’s a ZIP-File to use a child theme for Enfold:
    Using a child theme – Enfold

    I think the naming convention for the folder is <themename><hyphen>child”
    so “enfold-child” not “enfold_child”.

    If this part is correct you should see the child Theme still need to activate your child theme.
    Login in your WordPress-Dashboard. Go to “Appearance” > “Themes” and activate the child theme.

    hope I could help.

    Sorry that was just my typing. I am using the child theme it was the one you provided. It is active and working fine other than these issues with styles.

    Is the child theme’s style.css loading correctly?
    when you look on the source code of the website you should find something like this:

    <link rel='stylesheet' id='avia-style-css'  href='http://www.your-website.com/wp-content/themes/enfold-child/style.css' type='text/css' media='all' />

    The important part is: /wp-content/themes/enfold-child/style.css
    To view the source code you could use <ctrl>+<u> in your browser.

    If you find that line, the correct CSS file should be loaded.
    Then you could check your CSS rules – probably its a problem with the rules then…
    maybe they get overwritten?

    a more radical approach to test if your CSS-file is loaded correctly would be to add an rule like this:

    body {
    display: none !important;
    }

    now your website should be empty.
    but I don’t recommend this for your production environment! ;)

    Hi,

    Can you give a link to your site? so we can inspect it.

    Hi,

    Thanks for checking in. I am beginning to think this has something to do with caching. I made some changes last night using my normal method of editing CSS file. A few changes, no problem. I use Chrome, TextMate and Emmet LiveStyle to edit CSS. I saved my changes to the server and all good. Then I made one more change. Very small but obvious. I added 25px of padding to top of footer. Looked great in LiveStyle. I saved to server, turned off LiveStyle and refreshed browser. No 25px. Had enough for the night and walked away. This morning 25px is there.

    I can confirm that the child CSS file is loading. You can take a look too.

    Could this just be browser cache? I’ve not seen it do that before.

    I have included the link and I can give you credentials if you need them. I do appreciate your efforts.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Bit of an update.

    I changed an image I used as a background in the CSS file. The changed image was not reflected on the site.

    So I told the server not to add a query string to the CSS file and everything works now.

    Hi kevince52,

    Could have been cache, sometimes caching gets very aggressive and it works at many levels.

    Glad you got it working for you.

    If you need further assistance please let us know.

    Hi,
    Having issues again. It looks like Enfold is doing something to the CSS for versioning. When I look at the CSS source the child css file is coming from:
    <link rel="stylesheet" id="avia-dynamic-css" href="http://www.il-mercato.ca/wp-content/uploads/dynamic_avia/enfold_child.css?ver=58e3fa42e9031" type="text/css" media="all">
    Is there a way to disable this?

    #792523

    Hi,

    That is the file of the theme settings, it loads any CSS from there.

    Maybe I am not explaining myself correctly. When I make a change to the style.css file in my child theme the dynamic css file does not update. Is there a way to turn off dynamic CSS until I’ve made all the changes I need then back on again. Kind of like a development mode?

    Hi,
    Sorry that is not possible.

    Hi,
    also have issues with this.
    Entry in the style.css of the child theme seems not to work, or, maybe works but very delayed.
    Eg. we added styles and they seemed not to work, so put them into the customizer css.
    After a while we could delete it from the customizer, as now the style.css seems to have been taken into consideratio.
    But again, if we edit here now, no effect (now).

    How to trigger that any change in style.css has an immediate effect?

    Thx

    #1002081

    Hi,
    When adding css in the style.css the merged styles is not rebuilt, to force this please re-save the theme settings, that is the big blue button at Enfold Theme Options. If the button is not allowing you to click it, add a blank space in the Enfold Theme Options > General Styling > Quick CSS field, then you can click the button.
    Then clear your browser cache.
    You should also disable Enfold Theme Options > Performance > JS & CSS file merging and compression, and any caching plugin until you are done building your site.

    Best regards,
    Mike
