I’m getting this error now on my website. It was fine last week. It’s weird because my other sites with the same theme are fine. Any ideas?
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/content/72/5288872/html/ancientcitybaptist/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/helpers/phpQuery.php on line 2
Thanks in advanced.

March 17, 2017 at 5:27 pm #762595Hey Carla,
Please contact your hosting provider and ask them to upgrade PHP version. Enfold is compatible with PHP version up to 7.1.x :)
Best regards,
YigitMarch 19, 2017 at 9:02 pm #763316I don’t think that is the issue. I have other websites that are hosted by on the same server (GoDaddy) that is fine because I have not upgraded to Enfold’s newest version. I think at this point, I will just try to downgrade back to the version before.
March 20, 2017 at 6:40 am #763496Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. The new version of the LayerSlider which is included in the new release of Enfold has new server requirements, that is likely why you are having problems. Not sure if you want to go with downgrading or not though?

RikardMarch 22, 2017 at 10:17 pm #765085Rikard, this isn’t correct I think.
I have just updated one of my sites to PHP 7.0, and am STILL getting this error message from a WORDFENCE scan (editied for privacy) :
wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/layerslider.php): failed to open stream: No such fileFOR INFO: This Layerslider install is NOT activate or licensed – it just came with the theme’s last update.
Something is definitely amiss other than the PHP.
Can we look a little further into this please?Stevo

Official Reply from LayerSlider Team:
You need to install the DOMDocument PHP extension or update your PHP version on your server. The new version uses phpQuery at several points and this library requires that PHP extension.
This is a common extension, which is a part of PHP by default. Some hosting services might disable it for some reason, but it shouldn’t be a problem for most of the cases. We are looking for ways how we could solve this, but at the moment that library and the plugin depends on this extension.Best regards,
BasilisMarch 22, 2017 at 11:04 pm #765096Hi Basilis,
This is not entirely correct. I have a layerslider with a license, and this site has no problem running on PHP 5.6 whatsoever.
I don’t feel convinced it is the PHP version.

BasilisApril 17, 2017 at 4:51 am #778551I stopped using part of Layerslider to “fix” my issues from a few weeks ago. I updated the theme again tonight and I got this error and it crashed my site. I had to disable layerslider entirely which I really didn’t want to do but it was the only way to get in. I also do not use wordfence as a plugin. Is this error still PHP related?

Did you update WordPress to the latest version as well? Please post the login details here so that we can inspect the site.

IsmaelJuly 16, 2017 at 6:07 am #821903I did another upgrade for WordPress and Enfold. (I have forgotten that I had disabled layerslider with the deactivation code). After I did the upgrading I got layerslider error. I tried to disable again but this time it did not work. So then I went ahead and purchased layerslider. I uploaded via FTP but it still doesn’t work. This is the error I know get. This has been a serious issue for months and I have several websites that use enfold.
Please help ASAP. I have to get this site back up and running.
First Error with no deactivation code: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/content/72/5288872/html/ancientcitybaptist/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/classes/class.ls.popups.php on line 173
Second code with the code in the functions.php
Fatal error: Declaration of avia_sc_comments_list::shortcode_handler() must be compatible with that of aviaShortcodeTemplate::shortcode_handler() in /home/content/72/5288872/html/ancientcitybaptist/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/comments.php on line 14July 16, 2017 at 4:38 pm #822073Hi cdubose574,
Which version of Layer Slider do you have now? If you have the key, you can update to their latest and the issue might not be there any more. Did you update the theme via ftp?

VictoriaJuly 16, 2017 at 5:45 pm #822112Victoria,
I’ve had this issue for some time but have been able to fix it with the temporary fix. But I upgrade to the most recent WP and Enfold theme and it broke again. I tried the temporary fix (deactivating the build in layerslider) but that did not work this time around. So I decide to go ahead and buy the LayerSlider plugin. Since I’m overseas at the moment, I logged into my GoDaddy account and used the backend FTP to upload the LayerSlider Plugin. That did not fix my problems either. I have read so many threads on this issues. It’s a bit discouraging because Enfold is my favorite theme and has been for years. If I can get the temporary code that deactivates LayerSlider, i’ll be happy and then can work on trying to fix the PHP problems etc.
Thanks in advanced for your help.
July 17, 2017 at 12:09 am #822237I was able to update to PHP 5.4 and the site came back up. I still need to fix the layerslider issue but at least the site is up again.
July 17, 2017 at 6:06 am #822327Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. The minimum recommended PHP version for WordPress is 5.6, would you be able to update to that? https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/
