Hi,
I believe that is the author post avatar. Can you see if in WP > Settings > Discussion > Avatar, at the bottom of the page is checked. If so uncheck it.

Sorry, but that did not do the trick. The Pensil icon is still showing above the post.

Got it!
Changed to with featured image, and then the CSS took care of the rest ;)
