I have a strange and unique problem. 10 years ago when I hired a developer to move my site to wordpress, he added /wordpress to the url. (see http://www.eatsomethingsexy.com/wordpress) At the time, I just assumed wordpress sites had to have wordpress in the name (they weren’t THAT common then… ) I’ve wanted to get rid of it for years and since I’m doing site changes, I thought this was a good time. I wasn’t able to do it so I called Blue Host, who hosts the site, and asked if they could help. After 45 minutes, the tech concluded that there is something in my theme that won’t allow me to drop the /wordpress. I don’t really believe it, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to check with you to see if this could be possible.

    Hi amyreiley,

Moving your site should not be a problem for someone who knows what they are doing. My guess is that your developer installed WordPress in a folder called WordPress and not in the root folder. You might be able to change that yourself under Settings–>General with the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) settings though but I’m not 100% sure. If you should need a freelancer to help you out we recommend Codeable.

    Best regards,

Yes, that is what happened. But if I move it to the other folder, as I understand it, none of the inbound links from other sites will work any longer. They were trying to do it some other way so that the links would still work and what they told me, verbatim is, “The php function of the theme is preventing us from deleting the /wordpress from the url.” Does that make sense to you on any level?

    Hey!

“The php function of the theme is preventing us from deleting the /wordpress from the url.”

Unfortunately, we’re not sure what “php codes” they’re referring to because the theme do not modify the permalinks or url in general. Did you check the Settings > General panel? You should see the Site Address (URL) value there. This issue is a bit sensitive because changing the site url requires steps which depends on the previous setup of the site. Unfortunately, we’re not familiar with the installation so it’s best if you hire a freelance developer. These guys might be able to help: http://kriesi.at/contact/customization
