Hi,
I am using yoast premium and have image galleries that have been up for awhile. None of the photos are indexed or appear during a google image search.
The images are in a masonry gallery and have alt text filled in.
I need these images to appear on google. What do you recommend? I asked a similar question before and was told that just because the site map doesn’t pick them up doesn’t mean they arn’t indexed.
It’s been a couple weeks since then and still nothing. I have looked for an answer, but havn’t found an answer that actually solves the problem.
March 18, 2016 at 8:38 am #600153Hi deanwilson012,
Since they are background images they won’t be treated as normal images on a page, but if they are located on your server they will be indexed by search engines anyway. I think Yoast will be able to answer your questions about SEO and their plugin better than we can though.

March 18, 2016 at 1:37 pm #600272This is what Yoast told me previously, but they still are not indexed on google:
Hi Dean,Thanks for your email.
Our plugin only analyzes the default WordPress content areas (title, url, main content box, etc.) If you are adding your images through other plugin/theme content boxes, Yoast SEO Premium won’t be able to detect them. However, this doesn’t mean that Google won’t be able to index them. Our content analysis is just to validate the content of your website and doesn’t really affect how search engines index your site. So if you have images there that aren’t recognized by our plugin, you should be fine.
In the past, we have tried to parse shortcodes and other content boxes with horrible results so we opted to provide plugin and theme developers with an API that can be used to pass their content to our page analysis.
If you are using a plugin or theme that doesn’t send their content to our page analysis, please reach out the developer and ask them about adding the functionality to their visual builder. This KB article will help them with the implementation: Can I add data to the page analysis?
———————
Then this is what you told me previously:
I think what you are referring to is background images and I don’t think the Yoast plugin will include those, but I wouldn’t worry too much about it since search engines will see the image even if Yoast doesn’t.———————————————————-
2 things: 1) Why do you keep referring to masonry gallery images as background images? 2) you both told me not to worry, but they still are not indexed on google?
I have been trying to solve this problem for a long time and need a solution because it’s a business’ website.
March 21, 2016 at 12:46 pm #601183Hey!
Thank you for coming back.
I checked, that images uploaded with the in the masonry gallery are definetly stored in the standard upload folder of WP for media files.
Maybe you can check with your hoster, that he does not block access to this folder for search engines.
Nevertheless I will tell Kriesi about the SEO API calls.
Cheers!
GünterMarch 21, 2016 at 1:19 pm #601197Good morning,
Thank you for getting back to me. I have been trying to solve this problem for almost a year with no luck.
I love the enfold theme, but something like this that is inhibiting our seo is definitely something we’ll consider when we revamp our site or recommend others themes.
I don’t think it’s my hosting, but i’ll check. I use godaddy and don’t understand why they would block something like this.
Thanks,
DeanMarch 21, 2016 at 6:18 pm #601433Just spoke to our hosting account and they said nothing was being blocked on their end.
So does anyone from the Enfold team have an actual solution?
Or do you guys not even know? I’ve asked multiple times and have gotten everything but a real answer. Always blaming someone else whether it’s yoast or now Godaddy.

March 24, 2016 at 11:18 pm #603500Hi!
I am doing some checkings on what to do and if so, if it is related to our theme.
Would need some time to manage make it happen or at least report to youBest regards,
BasilisMarch 25, 2016 at 2:29 am #603524Thank you! Really appreciate it. I know you’re busy.
Really focused on the masonry gallery on the image gallery page.
I know a lot of people will probably appreciate what you find based on the research i’ve done.
Best of luck,
March 30, 2016 at 4:12 am #604909Hi!
The images in the gallery are included in the attachment site map but once you check the page site map, only 1 or 2 images are found. This is probably an incompatibility issue between how yoast detect images and the masonry gallery. Could you please ask the yoast team if the plugin can detect or index images that are set to display: none?
Attachment sitemap: http://www.intercitylines.com/attachment-sitemap1.xml
Page sitemap: http://www.intercitylines.com/page-sitemap.xmlHave you ask google to recrawl or reindex the page? https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6065812?hl=en
And have you setup the sitemap in the google webmaster dashboard? http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/what-is-a-wordpress-sitemap-how-to-create-a-sitemap-in-wordpress/
And try to add this in the Quick CSS field:
.av-fixed-size .av-masonry-image-container img { display: block; }
Cheers!

Yes we’re set up on google webmasters.and no not for that particular url. I will try that.
Any other thoughts?
March 30, 2016 at 4:25 am #604915I will also try the code!!
Thank you!
DeanMarch 30, 2016 at 10:09 pm #605496Hey!
can u please also share for us the KB article?
Would like to give it a look.
Based on the review I have done, the display will permantly help Yoast, but in the end that is not 100% correct.
Although remember that a plugin like Yoast just ” helps ” ad guides not actually implements something for SEO.Cheers!
BasilisJune 5, 2016 at 3:42 pm #643147Hi all
I too have been trying to get you guys to add the Yoast hook to the theme. Yoast have provided information on their Knowledge Base for developers to integrate their API so that ALL images can be indexed with the Yoast Sitemap.
Let me assure everyone that this DOES make a difference to have them in the sitemap. Whether you use Masonry, Gallery or Image elements on your pages Yoast needs to be able to read them. Currently they cannot. It is good practice to put images into a sitemap.
If you are serious about marketing your theme as ‘SEO ready’ there are some very big holes you need to fill guys. This is just one of them. Please do something. I have lost 80% of my images from where I used to be since swapping to your theme. It is excellent by the way but there are some things that are very very frustrating for those people who know what they are doing.
This mentions how Yoast tried to parse shortcode content without success but may have information on the hook they left in for developers: https://yoast.com/wordpress-seo-content-analysis/
C’mon guys, this is important please…
Thanks
EdJune 6, 2016 at 8:09 am #643336Hi Ed,
Thanks for you input. I’m not sure what you mean when you say that you have lost 80% of your images? Our theme doesn’t delete any images, please try to explain a bit further. If you are referring to that Yoast cannot read 80% of your images then I would say that you can ignore that fact, your actual SEO won’t be affected by a plugin not being able to read shortcode.
Best regards,
RikardJune 6, 2016 at 9:17 am #643361Hi Rikard
Thank you for responding.I have over 4000 images on my site. Before swapping to Enfold I had 3700 indexed and searchable by Google. These were included in my sitemaps.
Since the theme swap I now have 400. And the change was almost instant. I understand about alt tags, context and the ways Google has to return image results – if anything I have made continual improvements on that.
I understand about about how Google crawls native WP images and that they do so from fully rendered code (you can see this through the ‘Fetch’ tools in Google Search Console) but the bottom line for me is that I have a massive drop in indexed images and there is no other reason for it than a theme swap and the inability to collect data to submit to a sitemap. Google doesn’t read shortcodes – I know that already – it reads fully parsed code. It should crawl all WP images but it doesn’t. They won’t admit this but then who knows how the algorithms work? All I have is a significant problem an done that points towards the cause I am talking about.
https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2012/04/1000-words-about-images.html – from their own blog they recommend an image sitemap.
I know you guys won’t do anything about it and talking is fine but at the end of the day (and having spent 5 years in the industry) I have exhausted all other possible explanations for the terrible drop in indexed images.
Would you ‘ignore’ this if it was you? I am an artist – visual searches are fundamental to my business and I have been struggling for a long time with this – now it’s getting silly. Why do you not feel it necessary to make this change?
Regards

June 6, 2016 at 3:21 pm #643471Ed is 100% correct. I have had the theme for over a year without any of my gallery images indexing.
I tried your tips and you can keep going around the bush, but it is a huge flaw in the theme.
Maybe it is how Enfold hooks to Yoast or this or that, but enfold is marketed as a drag and drop theme.
Simple to us and user friendly.
For the most part Enfold is, but in regards to this gallery problem maybe your team should focus on finding a solution that makes it so gallery images are easily indexed.
Ed, I have done their tips, but after over a year of trying to find a solution to this they have not come close.
As a business, this seriously affects our seo ranking by losing out on hundreds of content worthy images being easily noticed by google. I’m sure the affect is just as great on yours.
Best of luck, but from my experience if this is a serious problem I would recommend looking for a different theme. That’s something I have begun to do. Enfold is easy to use, but it seems to be easier to recreate our website in a naturally more seo friendly way using a different platform then solve this image seo problem with enfold….
