    Hi,

My default permalink setting is: https://site.com/sample-post/ for my blog. If I view the search results from Google, I would like to show the category the post belong to (i.e. /blog/post-name). Currently it is not showing the category. If I change the permalink settings to show the category, the old url https://site.com/sample-post/ throws an error message and the page has no redirect.

What is the best practice here? Essentially, we’d like to have the categories appear on the meta description url in Google results. Does this mean I have to redirect all posts and then re crawl the site in Google?

    Please advise. Thank you.

    Hi AV!

this is not a theme related issue, as what you want is some SEO solutions. Try the plugin from yoast.
Maybe this plugin is for you as well: https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/

    Cheers!

    Hi Andy,

    What does the plugin do?
Does that mean I have to set a custom permalink then redirect all my old blog posts to blog/post-name using this plugin?
Seems like a lot of work.

Why did the theme not cover renaming of permalinks? Please advise. Thank you!

    Hey!

As Andy sayed, that is not a part of our theme, that is how WordPress works.
To go further, you need to use a plugin to manage that process.

    Best regards,
    Basilis
