Hi – something mysterious happened on my homepage at http://www.DominiqueHurley.com .
I created this page almost a year ago and have used it many time since, so I know the links in the icon boxes worked.
I added 1 layer of icon boxes as you scroll down the page to Work With Me about 3 weeks ago and checked and double checked that they worked. They did and I’ve used them since. But today, when I went to click on one of the links, it brought me to
http://www.DominiqueHurley.com/manually. Then I checked all of them and saw that most if not all (can’t remember) had switched from the urls that I’d put in to “manually”. See screen shot.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/18yeqrnavrv5abf/Screen%20Shot%202016-03-09%20at%206.32.19%20PM.png?dl=0I don’t know how or when, but it switched all my urls to the word manually. This is a serious glitch I thought you’d like to know about. Thanks.
March 14, 2016 at 4:45 pm #597842Hey!
I am hearing such issue for the first time. Is there anyone else that is editing your site?
Have you installed a plugin prior to the issue?Cheers!
YigitMarch 14, 2016 at 5:05 pm #597853hi,
no. nothing changed on my site or computer except an upgrade to the newest Mac Operating system, OS El Capitan. Iwas 2 systems back before. Could that be it? I installed Grammarly a few months back. Maybe I hadn’t noticed way back then. No one else has access.
March 14, 2016 at 5:13 pm #597857Hi again – to add to above.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve had a lot of trouble with Avia Layout builder. This goes from before my system change or Grammarly. I’d say at least 6 months. I rarely use it now as my Pages are built and most of my blog posts are the default editor. But if I write something and then I go back, often, I can’t use the Visual Editor. I have to go to text and figure out my edits in there (I’m learning a lot about code). It’s not every time, but I’d say 80% of the time. I can’t access what’s there – the visual editor is blank. So I can’t use a lot of the stuff I’m used to – like Bold, etc.I’m not sure if this should be an extra ticket, but it came to mind again here. Thanks.
March 17, 2016 at 4:24 pm #599663Hi!
I can’t reproduce the issue, as I can switch betten standard editor and ALB easily without loosing content. Maybe there might be some corrupted files, so please delete all theme files completely via FTP, before installing a fresh copy from your themeforest account: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/install-enfold-over-ftp/
I assume you already tried to deactivate all plugins to check if one is causing this issue?
Best regards,
AndyMarch 17, 2016 at 7:17 pm #599905Hi Andy, by “delete all theme files completely via FTB” – will that delete / change any of my content? Will it affect what I’ve ever done on my website in any way? I’m not a techy by nature and so I’ll admit that sounds a bit alarming :-)
As for deactivate all plugins to check – this too was above my techy understanding. I can now see where I can deactivate. So do I deactivate one and test to see if the content reappears and then reactivate it and try the next? Is that how to “check if one is causing the issue”? Sorry for the beginner enquiry here.
March 21, 2016 at 7:07 am #601064Hi!
Before we do the steps above, maybe you should check if the input codes are correct. It’s quite normal to make code mistakes, more so if you’re a beginner. Could you please provide a link to a post or page where we can reproduce the issue?
Cheers!
IsmaelMarch 21, 2016 at 1:09 pm #601194Hi Ismael – The issue happened on my homepage. http://www.DominiqueHurley.com . But there were no input codes that I made. All I had to do was the drop-down for manual and then paste the url of the page it was linking to. As I said, it had been working and then mysteriously switched on its own some time later. I changed it back to the URL after I noticed the links were broken and found the screen shot above (word “manually” had replaced the url. Now it’s working again. It’s just the mysterious switch that we need to figure out. And I have a suspicion it has to do with the other issues I have with Avia. See private content, but please be careful as it’s my homepage. Thanks.
P.S. The Visual editor is working in the 2 textboxes there today, but the image in About keeps breaking. Not sure why. It’s there on the View Page.
March 22, 2016 at 10:14 am #601787Hi!
The image in the “About” section does not exists: http://50.87.248.159/~dominjd2/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Dominique-Hurley-headshot-233×300.jpg

IsmaelMarch 22, 2016 at 11:50 am #601820Hi – thank you. I saw that last night when I added a Check Broken Links plugin. I’ve fixed it. Who knows what happened to the original image in my library.
What about the other more major issue?
Thanks,
March 25, 2016 at 9:12 pm #603713Hey!
about which more major issues are you talking about? If your broken links are working now then I think this thread can be closed? Let us know if you still need help with it or if the plugin you have used could solve it for you 100% already.
Please always use a new ticket for a new question/issue.Best regards,
AndyMarch 30, 2016 at 12:33 am #604855Hi, yes the original links are fine now on my homepage because I changed them back. The major issue was that they mysteriously switched on their own from a url to the word “manually” while I wasn’t working on the page (as in during the weeks that followed. I just wanted to make sure you knew about it and were looking into it. There’s no more evidence on my site though. They haven’t switched back again, but who knows if they will again.
The follow-up questions were based on suggestions to check my Plugins, which I didn’t understand how to do. This led to a discussion on the issues I’ve been having with Avia for a long time.
Andy talked about “so please delete all theme files completely via FTP, before installing a fresh copy from your themeforest accoun”. He also suggested ” I assume you already tried to deactivate all plugins to check if one is causing this issue?”
and I’m still waiting to hear how to do the checking part – I know how to deactivate. But how do I know if it was causing an issue?
Ismael talked about checking input codes first.
So this one is not resolved and I too am confused. Not a techy and nervous about ruining the site if I “delete all theme files.”
So back to checking plugins first – please explain what I do after I deactivate. How do I check?
Thanks for your patience.
March 31, 2016 at 7:47 am #605687Hi!
Since there are no evidence of the issue and the icon boxes url are now fixed, I’m afraid that we won’t be able to debug it this time. We are not sure why it switched automatically but it’s possibly caused by a plugin. If you encounter the issue again, please don’t do anything but report to us immediately.
Cheers!
IsmaelMarch 31, 2016 at 10:17 am #605750OK Thanks. Is there a link you could send me to that explains the process of
Deactivating plugins – checking issues – reactivating plugins.
Much appreciated.March 31, 2016 at 8:18 pm #606186Hi!
no, there is no link for it. Just deactivate them, check the issue and check if there are any changes.
Regards,
AndyMarch 31, 2016 at 9:14 pm #606236OK – so deactivate them all and if the issue is gone, reactivate one at a time until I find the culprit?
Thanks,March 31, 2016 at 11:43 pm #606347Correct, let us know how it goes :)
Regards,
JosueApril 1, 2016 at 12:04 am #606371Thanks Josue – I’ll have to wait until another Avia issue comes up, so it will take a while to report.
