Greetings,
Thank you for your earlier reply in regards to creating a child theme for my new site.

Hey AmericanMetroPOS,
You should be able to do that yes, did you make any changes to the parent theme files at all? If not you should be able to simply activate the child theme and import your settings from the parent: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/portfolio-item/create-a-child-theme/

We have in fact edited a few of the parent theme files. What all do I need to include in the child theme folder to ensure that all of our changes are kept when we update? I believe we’re still running on an old version since we haven’t launched yet. This is one of our last steps that we will need to take before we go live later this month. Any guidance would be greatly appreciate as I’ve never set up a child theme before and I don’t want to screw up what I have done to date. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If they are WordPress core files then they will trump the parent file in a child theme, but if they are theme specific files it might be a bit more tricky, could you list the files you have changed please?
Thanks,
RikardDecember 28, 2015 at 7:14 pm #557801We tried to activate the child theme and found the settings in Theme Options all went back to default. The files that we changed are:
functions.php
style.cssThose files and screenshot.png are the only ones we moved into the Enfold-child folder. Is there something else we need to do to make sure the Theme Options transfer over as well?
December 29, 2015 at 6:03 am #558003Hi,
Could you try exporting the settings in your parent theme then importing them again when the child is active? You might have to toggle a setting or two and save after importing for them to take effect. Also make sure to clear your browser cache and do a hard refresh of the front-end to see the changes.
Thanks,
RikardDecember 29, 2015 at 7:05 pm #558202That worked great, thanks. The only thing that didn’t transfer was the footer setup. I had to set up the child theme footer widgets and after doing this I noticed it would be nice to adjust the top and bottom padding of the footer area and bottom align the text. How can I make that happen?
