    Greetings!

I learned about child themes after I finished the design of my website using the Enfold theme. Is there a way to utilize the child theme after the site has already been designed and is ready to launch? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hey AmericanMetroPOS,

You should be able to do that yes, did you make any changes to the parent theme files at all? If not you should be able to simply activate the child theme and import your settings from the parent: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/portfolio-item/create-a-child-theme/

    Best regards,

    Greetings again Rikard,

We are at the point where our site is finished, and we’re ready to launch the website. What we would like to do is ensure that our changes to the style.css and functions.php files will not be lost when we update the Enfold theme by using a child theme. This is our first foray into using a child theme, so we’re a little unsure that we’ve done what we need to do to make sure we aren’t going to lose all of our changes.

We have watched the child theme video from Enfold and have created a child theme as laid out in the video with a new style.css and functions.php file. What we’re curious about is how we add content from our current files to make sure that when we update the Enfold theme that our changes aren’t lost. Could you advise us how to make this happen so we can update the Enfold theme before we launch the website live?

The differences are in lines 64-67 in the functions file it appears, and the differences in the style is in the custom.css file I believe. Lines 8-12 seem to be what was added.

This will be the first time that we’ve updated the theme, so in updating the theme with a child theme in place, do we need to worry about losing all of our settings and preferences in the Enfold theme options? For instance, our logo, colors, general and advanced styling, header and all of that?

Thank you in advance for your support. I will provide the login information below for your convenience.

    Hi,

If all your custom code is in the child theme you shouldn’t have anything to worry about, but please always do a full backup of the site before any updates to be on the safe side. If anything should go wrong you can always roll back.

    Thanks,
    Rikard
