    Hello,
I am responsible for maintaining a client website that uses Enfold. A previous colleague built/launched it before me. It’s running on WordPress3.8.8. I’m interested in updating it to WordPress 4.2.2 and also updating all the plugins.

I believe my colleague used custom code, but did not use a child theme. I found some code under Enfold/Styling/Quick CSS. Should I copy and save this code before making any updates, and then re-enter it once the updates are done? Are there any other places in the theme dashboard where there might be more custom code?

    Thank you,

    Valerie

    Hey Valerie!

If possible, please make sure that they have not made any changes on theme files. If they did updating the theme will overwrite them. Custom CSS code in Quick CSS field is safe as long as theme names are matching.

Also, how do you recommend updating the theme? Within the dashboard or replacing the files via ftp?

    Hey!

It does not matter which you update first WordPress or Enfold. Enfold version you are currently using is not compatible with the latest version of WordPress so after updating WordPress you may have compatibility issues.
You can update the theme via FTP to make sure to overwrite all files – http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/

    Hi!

If you have an unmodified version of Enfold 2.4.1, you can use a website such as this one – https://www.diffchecker.com/ to check differences. If you do not have, you can request from Kriesi using contact form here – http://kriesi.at/contact but since he is very busy working on theme updates, it may take a while.
Yes you can update the theme firstly. You can create a testing enviroment firstly and check the changes there – http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/move-from-a-local-installation-to-a-live-server/

    Best regards,
    Yigit
