How to change icon on hover of gallery potfolio

Hi! I am trying to change the icon of the arrow on the hover of the masonry gallery portfolio (currently the default arrow) to the rocket icon – I saw the thread on how to change icon use for standard theme elements and added to child theme php but it did not work (link below)- any other pointers?
