I was wondering if you can include videos as the “featured image” of a portfolio element. My client is in the entertainment department and has many videos of him on news shows. I would like to display his media coverage almost like a blog. I am currently pulling it as a blog by putting all of the interview videos in a category. Is there a better way to do this?
I also don’t necessarily need to link the videos to another page because in most cases there is only a sentence or two of text underneath the videos. Additionally when I try to remove the title because I don’t need it to link to another individual page, the grey date/author/category text above the video is cut awkwardly in half.
Thanks!

What I like to do is open the video up in a popup and since you do not need the posts to link anywhere this may be a good option for you. You can view an example here, http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold/portfolio/, by clicking on the soccer ball image.
Or you could also just display the videos individually in columns with our video element.

ElliottApril 15, 2015 at 1:14 am #428578So I made the design a portfolio grid.
First – How do you make the video embedded into lightbox like the example that you provided?
Secondly – for some reason I’m getting a “nothing found” when I click the image. I looked this issue up elsewhere in the forum and tried flushing the permalinks but that didn’t work. I’ve moved the site over from a development site but I’m not sure that’s the issue.
Thanks for your help.

When I click default permalinks setting, the portfolios start working again. But when I go to the “post name” permalink setting, the portfolio pages once again fail to be found.
April 15, 2015 at 8:36 pm #429210Hi!
1. When you edit the portfolio post there is an option, “Overwrite Portfolio Link Setting”, which you can use to link to the video URL.
2. Did you edit the portfolio base or portfolio entry slugs? Try deactivating all of your plugins. If that does not help then try creating a copy of your .htaccess file, delete it, and then refresh your permalinks again. Pay special attention to any messages WordPress gives you such as the .htaccess file not being writable, etc etc.

1. Sorry I was referring to the demo where the video icon hovers over the soccer picture which opens the video up in a lightbox, but at this point I’ll just be happy if the portfolio opens in a new page correctly haha.
2. Deactivating the plugins had no effect. I edited the permalinks when it was still on the development site, but do not think the portfolio base or entry slugs were touched (there’s another admin user but doubt he touched it). When you say delete the htacess file do you mean delete the original and rename the copied version so that it replaces it or the copied version. I downloaded the htaccess file back to a local host folder.

Please refer to this link for a possible permalink fix: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Fixing_Permalink_Problems
Setting the “Overwrite Portfolio Link Setting” to custom link and adding a video url will force the portfolio item to open a video lightbox, just like in the demo.
