I think some sort of spam has infiltrated my megamenu.
In the top right corner you can see the menu that says “call here to order now”. below this (overlaying the slider” there is some spam link to a vitamin producer. it goes to a dead website. This link goes away when i remove the menu. But i need a menu. How can i remove this? Thanks
January 8, 2015 at 5:52 pm #376944Hey rbruski!
Do you mind creating a temporary admin login and posting it here privately? It seems like a plugin related spam.

please update to WordPress 4.1. This might be caused by a security issue, which could be solved after the update.
Consider to get some security plugin for your WordPress installation.Cheers!
AndyJanuary 10, 2015 at 2:42 am #377662I have updated to WordPress 4.1. The problem has not been solved. In addition the text that was display is now different but still there.
What security plugin do you recommend.
Please note that i hadn’t changed anything on the website for weeks prior to the spam. so i would expect a security plugin to prevent hacks but how do i remove the one that is currently there. It seems to be only embedded into the mega menu… everything else is fine.
Are there any other recommendations on how to get rid of this from the forum?January 10, 2015 at 4:27 am #377691Hi,
Does the issue persists with the default WordPress theme activated?
Cheers!
JosueJanuary 10, 2015 at 8:26 pm #377842i don’t know. i haven’t changed the theme because i would prefer no to lose all of my enfold site settings.
It is however, only in the menu. when i turn the menu off, it is gone. If someone could help me find which css file these seemed to have embedded itself into i can remove the line of code myself.January 10, 2015 at 8:40 pm #377844when i try to add a new piece to the mega menu i now get the spam above (in addition to below) the menu.
I will have to remove the menu all together soon because i can’t have my clients seeing me selling cialis on the website… so i’d appreciate some help. Thanks
January 12, 2015 at 4:27 am #378104Hello,
Switching themes won’t affect the theme settings, i suggested that so we can discard if the problem is coming from the theme, if iso then you’d need to re-install it via FTP, if it’s not, try with plugins, disable each one until you find the culprit.

JosueJanuary 12, 2015 at 7:37 am #378168Thanks for all the assistance everyone but i haven’t been able to solve it. I changed the theme and the spam was still there and then i tried deactivating each plugin but the spam continued to stay there.
Any additional tips?Robert
January 12, 2015 at 9:42 am #378190Hi Robert!
At this point the only thing left would be to re-install WordPress via FTP, if that doesn’t help please contact your hosting provider for further assistance.
Cheers!
JosueJanuary 12, 2015 at 4:57 pm #378361hmmmm… okay thank you Josue.
Would installing wordpress again via ftp prevent me from having to rebuild the whole website? I mean is doing through ftp vs the another method more of a “repair” version rather than a “format” version? or will i have to rebuild the website all over if i reinstall wordpress?
if i don’t have to rebuild the site all over then do you have some instructions on how to do it via ftp?
if i do have to rebuild the site, first i will contact my host and so i just want to make sure there isn’t a way i can use a “firebug” chrome type plugin to just find the spam link and remove it from the css files directly?Robert
