Hi.
A site I’m working on is no longer displaying the theme correctly after the last WP update. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the FTP and the most of the main sections of the dashboard (plugins, appearance, etc.) throw a 404 error.
The header slider is no longer working.
Is there anyway to fix this issue without access to the FTP?

Thanks so much!

Not sure if you will be able to fix this without FTP.
The suggestions I was going to give you were to delete your .htaccess file and then refresh your permalinks but it’s not letting me do that in your dashboard either.
If that does not work then you’ll want to try deleting all of your plugin folders in
/wp-content/plugins/
.Do you have access to your cpanel? You can create a new FTP user there. I would contact your hosting provider for more information.

I was able to gain FTP access and update the theme that way so the slider is back up and running.
Unfortunately, I’m still getting a 404 error when I try to access certain parts of the dashboard, specifically, Appearance > Themes. Any ideas there?
Thanks!

Let’s try the following.
1. Deactivate all plugins.
2. Delete your .htaccess file and then refresh your permalinks in Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks.
3. Delete Enfold from your WordPress theme directory via FTP and then download + upload a fresh copy.
Cheers!
ElliottDecember 4, 2014 at 5:57 pm #363049Hi, Elliott.
How do I delete the .htaccess file?
Also, do I need to follow these steps in this order? If so, I can’t because the Plugins page on the Dashboard is still giving me a 404.
Thanks!

I would try #2 first then #3 and then #1. You can find the .htaccess file in your WordPress root directory (the directory wherever you installed WordPress).

ElliottDecember 5, 2014 at 10:04 pm #363864Thanks, Elliott.
I tried deleting the .htaccess file and uploading a fresh theme file via FTP.
I also tried refreshing the permalinks, but many of the dashboard pages still give me a 404 error.
There are no active plugins currently installed.
Thanks,

Try contacting your hosting provider to see if they have any idea on what is going on. If they do not then I would try reinstalling WordPress.
