Hi,
For the first time we’ve tried to add a video instead of a picture for the fullscreen slider on our homepage. The point of the video is to loop every 10 sec so it looks endless. See example here: http://goo.gl/97xb3
We’ve tried several options. Youtube displays a black screen with “Play” button in between the loops, so that’s not an option. We’ve tried adding it inside WP itself, which seems to work a lot better, though in Safari the loop still stutters in between playthroughs.
But the biggest issue is (in any browser) when loading it for the first time. First you get an empty black screen for a while, then you see the video for a fraction of a sec until it pauses and plays, pauses and plays again, … until after a while it starts to run fluently.
Any other movie I’ve seen in the Enfold demo page or sites based on Enfold theme do not have this stuttering issue and black intro screen, so I wonder if there is something we can do to improve this performance before we scrap the whole thing and go back to a simple picture.
Thanks in advance.
December 1, 2014 at 9:01 pm #361031Hi DavyE!
Once it is cached it seems to work fine. What happens when you use a longer video, say around 30 seconds? Does it have the same buffering problem there?
Cheers!
ElliottDecember 2, 2014 at 10:31 am #361369That would only increase the file size even further, instead of decreasing it. I understand it works fine after it’s cached, but that’s not how it should go. We cannot rely on people’s patience and decision to come back to our site just to finally see the homepage working correctly.
Why do all other Enfold site videos immediately start playing fluently upon page load, but ours needs so much buffering?
Also, why does a Safari stutter in between loops while other browsers (at least not IE etc.) don’t?
I really hope to find a solution!
December 4, 2014 at 2:54 am #362645Hi!
I can’t see any video on http://goo.gl/97xb3. Did you already try to deactivate all plugins to see if this helps?
Cheers!
AndyDecember 4, 2014 at 6:06 pm #363062Hi Andy,
Yes, we’ve replaced the video with an image until we find a solution for it. I’m looking at the Enfold demo page with an empty cache again and apart from 1-2 seconds of load time it immediately plays fluently, even though it is obviously longer than our 10 second video that stutters the entire playthrough. This is the Enfold demo page I’m talking about:
http://kriesi.at/themedemo/?theme=enfoldAre there perhaps some video export settings that we should know about in order to optimise the performance on a web page? I still have the video running on this test site: http://goo.gl/ru0vsX
I really hope there’s something we can do about this. Thanks in advance for the assistance.
