Hello,
My site (Enfold Theme) is having some pretty significant issues when viewed in Safari 6.0.5 (Mac) browser. Looks great in Firefox and Chrome. But the main menu is behaving oddly, as well has hovering over images in my portfolio, etc.
Any ideas guys? This could be really bad, considering my client will use his iPhone to view the site a lot.
Love the theme. Main kink so far.
Thanks,
Pat
September 4, 2013 at 1:22 am #138971September 4, 2013 at 1:22 am #138972Hi Pat,
What issues specifically? Can we also see the site live?
Kriesi develops on a mac and I’ve tested all of the themes on mine as well so there shouldn’t be any unknowns or untested issues.
Regards,
Devin
September 4, 2013 at 1:42 pm #138973Hello guys, . . . I try not to give up a url if possible just because some of my clients are kind of high profile, but here ya go. <removed by devin>
Please, if you can, use Safari and click around on the main nav menu and see what happens. Difficult to explain.
Also, if you go to the “Facilities” or “Clients” pages and hover over each item you will see a momentary “blink” happen. Some little glitches.
Thank you.
September 4, 2013 at 1:48 pm #138974In the future you can use http://goo.gl/ to obfuscate your urls and deactivate them after a period of time.
The first thing to try is to update your theme files. WordPress 3.6 requires that you use Enfold 1.9.1 or higher. The current version is 2.0.1 and you are on 1.8.4 so you’ll not only bring your site up to WordPress 3.6 compatibility but also get a few new features and lots of bug fixes.
September 6, 2013 at 3:01 pm #138975Sweet! I had a feeling that’s what was the issue. Thank you very much Devin. Also thanks for the link to the Google URL shortener. Always learning something new. :-) I will apply your advice and update shortly.
September 6, 2013 at 10:19 pm #138976Hello Devin,
Ok, I updated to Enfold 2.0.1 and the main menu items are still messed up in Safari. ;-(
Please, if you have a moment, can you log into Safari and see what I’m talking about? You have to click on one of the menu links to see what I mean. Some turn “bold” and others do not. Very odd. http://goo.gl/lNogs8
If you want to see what it’s supposed to look like, view it in Firefox browser.
Thanks a bunch Devin. I know these support tickets cost $. I try not to get carried away.
Sincerely,
Pat
September 6, 2013 at 10:26 pm #138977What version of Safari is it having an issue in?
September 11, 2013 at 7:19 am #138978Gosh, I apologize Devin, . . . the days go by like hours. Sorry for the late response.
I am using Version 6.0.5 of Safari.
Thanks.
September 12, 2013 at 1:47 pm #138979Here is what the issue looks like in the safari browser. Messes with the menu links.
September 12, 2013 at 1:53 pm #138980Try changing this custom css you have:
.main_menu ul:first-child > li > a {
display: inline-block;
font-size: 13px;
font-weight: 300;
margin-right: 20px;
padding: 80px 9px;
text-decoration: none;instead of using 300 for the font-weight try just normal:
.main_menu ul:first-child > li > a {
display: inline-block;
font-size: 13px;
font-weight: normal;
margin-right: 20px;
padding: 80px 9px;
text-decoration: none;That seemed to fix it on my end. Not sure why Safari has an issue with it or if that is truly the cause but it worked via dev tools.
September 12, 2013 at 6:46 pm #138981Davin, Thanks for trying to help me with this. It’s greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, it’s still messed up.
What’s really odd is that the glitch only happens when I select the Home, News, and Clients items.
I’m wondering if it has something to do with the logo I centered. I did some whacky coding to get it to where I wanted it. I’ve never come across a theme that “likes” to center a logo.
What are your thoughts?
-Pat
September 12, 2013 at 6:51 pm #138982I just tried “hiding” the logo (display: none) , but the issue continues. ;-(
Boy, this is a tough one.
September 13, 2013 at 12:35 pm #138983The only other thing I can think of trying is to remove all of your custom css and then re-add it in one block at a time.
September 14, 2013 at 7:05 pm #138984Ouch. :-) Ok. I’ll try that.
I’ll update the progress. Thanks Devin.
September 16, 2013 at 3:27 am #161529Let us know . As I said trying that on my mac with dev tools to see the code effect live seemed to fix it but its not something I’ve ever actually seen before so I am assuming there is a relation to the customization done up to this point.
September 19, 2013 at 8:00 pm #163737Still working on this issue. A mini nightmare. lol
I’m relentless though. This is one of my largest clients yet, so I’m bummed.
September 19, 2013 at 10:12 pm #163770Devin, Ismael, and whoever else is viewing this. . . . I have exausted all options. Tried everything I can think of. Ran CSS validation in LINT and WC3 Validator, tried deleting piece by piece, then testing and more testing, . . . and STILL, the menu is funky in the Safari browser. I know this will bug you guys, but can you take a look at the custom css and see if you see anything odd in here that might be causing issues in Safari? Thanks. I don’t know where to go with this issue if I can’t fix it. Might have to consider another theme. I really don’t want to lose this client, and this is a deal-breaker for sure.

September 20, 2013 at 8:58 am #163961Update, I deleted ALL my custom css code, and the issue persisted in Safari. So now on to the plugins. This is insane. I have probably spent 10 hours on this issue.
September 20, 2013 at 5:09 pm #164118In between removing your custom css are you clearing your cache/checking on other computers? Plugins are definitely a possibility as well.
September 20, 2013 at 10:51 pm #164256Yes Devin. I did all those things. Cleared cache, deactivated all plugins, tried on iPad mini Safari browser . . . . Issue remains.
I’m really surprised that no one has asked me for my login info to check it out. Being that it’s not the custom css or plugins, I would think that I would get a little more help with this guys. I’m 70+ hours deep into this project and I’m sure you can appreciate that I cannot deliver a site that’s broken in 1 or the 3 top browsers. This is my 4th Theme I have purchased from Kreisi and I’ve never come across anything like this. Solid themes and elite support. I feel like I’m about to be “let go.”
There is no doubt in my mind that if one of the Kriesi dev’s looked under the hood, they would probably discover this issue fairly quickly. It’s probably a stupid mistake of mine somewhere.
I think I noticed that there was a recent update. I have 2.1. Is there a newer update that might fix this?
Thank you very much Devin.
-PatSeptember 21, 2013 at 8:34 am #164354I’m heading to oDesk. Need to address this issue now. Thanks for trying guys. I know you did your best.
-Pat
September 21, 2013 at 12:19 pm #164405There isn’t anything that is view-able from the back end in this case that isn’t view-able from the front end.
If you don’t have success on oDesk, I can tag the topic for Kriesi and maybe he can find what is causing the issue. Its unfortunately just not something I’ve come across on any other installation of the theme (or really ever in my case) which is why I suggested trying to remove customizations and any other variables that may be causing things to be different than an initial install.
September 21, 2013 at 7:30 pm #164508I hear ya Devin. Kinda scary. I tried updating theme. Removing all the custom css, deactivating all the plugins . . . . I guess it has to happen to someone right? Why me? lol
Thanks buddy.
September 24, 2013 at 5:09 pm #165742Is there any way you can install the theme in a new sub directory or sub domain on the same server? Maybe, somehow, its a server setting that is causing the generated css to have a slight difference from the norm.
September 24, 2013 at 9:46 pm #165847Well, it’s already on a sub domain. I wonder if Bluehost would help out? Being that it might be a server issue. I’ve delt with server issues and hosting companies (from my experience) will go above and beyond to say it has nothing to do with their server settings, etc.
I think I sprouted a few new grey hairs over this. Haha
Thanks Devin. I will try this out.
Sincerely,
Pat
September 26, 2013 at 12:51 am #166316Here was the response I received from my hosting support person :
its not a hosting issue its to do with how safari is ignoring the !important in the css rules probably
this rule affects the of the menu text
color: rgb(187, 187, 187) !important;its in .main_menu ul:first-child >
thats in enfold.cssOR – safari is making the borders of the font slightly fuzzier (you could make that look better by increasing the font size).
The second option is more likely as the mouseover effect makes the words brighter.
But theres nothing server side that affects how different css browser rules are rendered in different browsers.
It’s not an !important rule issue because i cleared all the custom css and the issue still persisted. This is one crazy situation. It really sucks because this is the best theme ever and I might have to start over with a new theme.
So it sounds like I’m stuck. I guess the last thing to try would be to test another font maybe. I’m out of ideas. I will update (in case soeone else has this issue.)
September 26, 2013 at 1:39 am #166323Ok, I’m on to something. I trying to give you guys everything you need to help me with this issue. Thank you for baring with me.
1. I applied the example that Josue referenced to me on how to use media queries for specific browsers and made the menu items BOLD within Safari
2. There were (3) specific menu items that remain NORMAL weight, and the rest are BOLD.
3. I (replaced) one of the NORMAL menu items (pages) with a new page I created named “Test Page.” Attached is a screenshot of what’s going on.
http://postimg.org/image/632qvma8n/As you can see there is some craziness happening here. If it’s not my custom CSS, and it’s not the browser or my hosting, it has to be the theme. Please please please help me with this guys. This is it. I will have to go with another theme and spend weeks re-custimizing it (dozens of hours). I have never experienced this level of issues without a theme developer offering to login to my admin and help out. I’m 98% sure it’s a theme issue.
RECAP :
1. I’ve tried clearing out ALL myc custom css. – Issue remained
2. I am running the latest version of Safari.
3. My hosting provider says it’s not a server issue.
4. I deactivated ALL my plugins – issue remained.
5. I updated the theme – issue remained
6. I tried a different font – issue remainedWhatever is left to do is beyond my expertise.
please help
September 26, 2013 at 2:09 am #166331I’ll gladly log in and take a look. I understand how you may look at it as a theme issue but if it was, it would or at least should be manifesting itself with any of the other 9k people who have purchased and are using the theme.
