So the list of portfolio items that are used on the portfolio page to sort the items…is there any way those could be used in a vertical list format that I could put in a sidebar beside the portfolio? I think for this project they would be easier to read.

It is possible but it would require a heavy theme customization and unfortunately that’s beyond the scope of the support we can offer. If you really need it try contacting a developer.
