I have a number of image galleries within my site using lightbox. http://www.test.theimplantcentre.com/?page_id=57
I’d like all the galleries to make the rest of the screen tinted a dark grey when the image gallery pops up.

That should already be happening by default and it seems to activate once the element is inspected. I would suggest try to deactivate any active plugins you have running and see if that helps. If not, do a quick re-install of the theme over FTP just to make sure there are no small file corruptions that have happened anywhere or something odd like that. https://vimeo.com/channels/aviathemes/67209750
