A few weeks ago I posted about some issues being reported by users not being able to access our site in IE8. This was about 3 or 4 Enfold versions ago.

Today, running 2.6.2 I am still getting numerous reports of people not being able to access the site, but there seems to be no consistency in the user setup. Some are using Android on their phones and can’t access it, some are using IE on Windows 7 and can’t access it, one person was using Safari on a MacBook Pro and couldn’t access it. All iPhone/iPad users seem to have no problems.

All users with issues report getting a black screen and no content loads.

I have tried in Chrome and Safari from my Macs and it loads fine for me.

I use a cache plugin called Quickcache and I have disabled this but the users still cannot access the site.

Previously there seemed to be issues using a full screen slideshow (which I still do) but I thought these were ironed out?

Could you please offer me some assistance in identifying the problem? I would estimate that 10-20% of users have issues accessing the site which is a bit too high for me to ignore, I just cannot work out what the problem is.

    Site address http://www.daftonline.co.uk.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Wordepressed!

I think you used a plugin loading-page which is not a theme default feature. Please deactivate the plugin then contact the plugin author to fix it on IE. The site is loading but it takes a lot of time before it fully loads.

    Hi Ismael,

Thanks for the follow up. I have deactivated the loading screen and will ask users to try again.

I realise you are not my personal developer here, but could you offer me any immediate suggestions as to why the site is taking a long time to load, its not particularly plugin heavy. My assumption is my large images are possibly too big?

I have searched for optimum image size posts but I’m still a little unclear here. Would you be kind enough to share your views on what res I should upload full screen and banner style images at please?

    Hi!

I checked the website again on IE8 and it is now loading properly. Haven’t tried it on any mobile device yet. I’ll ask Devin and Josue to check this.

There are lot of things that you can do to optimize the website speed and page load. You can do the following:

    1. Optimize all images with AI/Photoshop before uploading to server ‘save as web safe’ jpg
    2. Once all images are on the website optimize with ewww optimizer plugin twice 1hr 10mins apart.
    3. Install wp-smushit run once to remove jpeg extra data, then uninstall.
    4. Use BWP minify plugin.
    5. Install WP-Super cache, select all recommended settings, use memcache option, update .htaccess rules, increase cache to 840000, Save then delete cache.
    6. Logout your website, visit every page at least once to create super cache files.
    7. Join Cloudflare setup your website on their CDN, Choose options: Full CDN Optimisation save then activate purge files. once done log out.
    8. Have a cup of coffee.
    9. Visit your site after 20 minutes or so.
    10. Dont forget to smile.

    Cheers!

haha! Great tips, thank you! I will see what I can make with them.

Sorry, but one more thing, is there actually a recommended dimension for full screen images to work best with Enfold?

Kriesi uses 1500x1500px sized images on demo site
