I am having trouble with WPML setup.

I don’t understand the difference between “duplicating” a page and then translating independently and +translating it. When I do use the +translate button, the translation also includes the shortcodes in the visual editor of the body text – is that how it is supposed to be? I need to send them to another translator. I unfortunately duplicated all the english pages instead of using the +translator, and am trying to find a way to use those pages, which are partially translated, instead of starting all over and using the +translate button. Can you help me with this?

I also don’t understand how translating links works. Do they all have to be done manually after the pages are translated? On a page like this:http://www.copenhagenfilmcompany.dk/2014/short-doc-films/ where it says “see all short & doc films” – do links like that get translated and linked to the right 2nd language pages or do they have to be done manually? I am confused and need to get this right SOON/

I have been in touch with WPML support but they are not really answering my setup questions, and did not have a fix for the issue with the shortcodes showing up in the visual editor.

thanks as always for your help.

    I have heard from WPML

    they said:
“The actual challenge you have is that with the Enfold theme both layout instructions but also “normal” text is added to the post editor field. So in this case you cant separate the two. Any layout changes done to the original (via Advanced Composer) need to be repeated manually in the translations again.”

    – apparently since I am using the ENFOLD advanced editor, the shortcodes show up in the visual editor, so I have to unlink the translation from the original to get it right. Then any changes I make to the layout do not get reflected in the translations…Is this how you understand it?
    thanks

    Hi!

You can use the “Duplicate” button but then click the “Translate independently” button to make sure that the “original” entry is not connected to the translated entry. Afterwards you can simply switch to the “Advanced Layout Editor” (Enfold will convert the shortcodes to elements automatically) and then you need to go through your elements to translate them. Make sure that:

    1) Blog Elements, Portfolio Grids, etc. use the right categories – every language uses different/translated categories with different ids and you can’t simply query the original categories

    2) all images/attachments are correct. Afaik WPML allows you to translate the image/meta data of attachments too and this may change the id of an attachment in the database if you switch to another language because every translation has an unique id.

    Cheers!
