So I bought the theme an asked a coder to modify it since I dont code. The website was fine. A couple days ago I started deleting the unused demo content that was being indexed by google and adding tracking and google+ authorship codes. I also asked the coder to fix some things on the website but now I’ve noticed that the Layerslider is not working and even the configuration panel on WP looks odd. The contact form isn’t working properly and the back to top button is gone. The coder says he didn’t touch anything so maybe I messed up, I’m not sure.
I just need someone who can look at the source code of the home page and tell me what is going wrong with the code and why those thing s aren’t working. Thanks!
December 1, 2013 at 6:30 am #194972Hi zendao!
Can you post the link to your website so we can inspect elements to find out what is wrong?
Regards,
YigitDecember 1, 2013 at 7:30 am #195007Brilliant yeah well the thing is I don’t want this post to be indexed on google with a link to my website. Would you be kind enough to click on my username on any post in this thread? It will take you to my website. Thanks! :)
December 1, 2013 at 7:37 am #195010Hey!
I actually did click on your username but frankly could not recognize the theme :)
1) Can you please open Footer.php file in Appearance > Editor and check if 168th line is the same or not? It should be at the very bottom of the file http://i.imgur.com/M3XOqYo.jpg
2) Layerslider.css file and JavaScript files are failing to load http://i.imgur.com/gOFxyQV.jpg I would suggest you to re-update the theme via FTP
For a quick guide on updating your theme take a look at this video on updating the Enfold theme via FTP: https://vimeo.com/channels/aviathemes/67209750Regards,

168th line should be the same as in screenshot in your Footer.php file http://i.imgur.com/M3XOqYo.jpg
It seems like your developer did not create a child theme prior to modifying the theme. Please contact them and make sure. If you have not created a child theme and made changes on theme files, you will lose these changes.Best regards,
YigitDecember 3, 2013 at 4:46 pm #195819Ok perfect! I will talk to him. Is it standard procedure to create a child theme? I did pay him 550 USD for the job! What do you think of the website anyway? Does it look like it’s worth it.
Anyway, I really appreciate your kind help. Thanks a lot Yigit! :)
December 3, 2013 at 7:20 pm #195860Hi!
I see that now back to top icon is working.
It is recommended to create a child theme if you are making changes in theme files not to lose your changes when the parent theme is updated. And yes, your website looks nice :)Regards,
YigitDecember 4, 2013 at 7:15 am #195979Yes he fixed some things now, but the back to top botton is diferent like the speed is off, He says he couldn’t fix the slider problem. This is what he said: “I have made all the changes except the slider changes. Slider is not saving my changes maybe because of admin rights issue. I spend many hours solving this issue but i could not solve this. ”
All I changed was what I stated above added some google codes and deleted some demo content. What would you say is the best way to fix this? Maybe its the google authoship code I added which can be seen at the very botton. thanks!
December 4, 2013 at 4:30 pm #196190Hey!
You can try deactivating all active plugins and check if that helps. I see no speed issue when clicked on back to top button. Speed will change depending on the size of the content you have on your page. Which version of the theme are you using? He has changed the version in Style.css file so i cannot see which version you are using
Best regards,
YigitDecember 4, 2013 at 10:49 pm #196382Ok I deactivated all the plugins but when I deactivated a “Page.ly Multiedit” plugin more than half the page dissapeared but I’m guessing the coder used it to create the website. Anyway, it didn’t work. The slider still isnt working, the contact form takes me to a weird url on my website: /#wpcf7-f1708-p1707-o1 and the coder has the same problem were when I go to the control panel it appears like this: /wp-content/uploads/2013/12/screenshot-145×1030.png
The theme version he used to modify and create the website is 1.3.1 Let me know if you would like access to anything in order to see files, or whatever.
Thanks a lot!- This reply was modified 11 years ago by zendao.
December 4, 2013 at 10:53 pm #196384Hi!
In that case you are going to need to try to update the theme to the latest version 2.4.2. The version you are using is very old. Your developer should have used a child theme ( http://vimeo.com/channels/aviathemes/67221517 ) to make customizations update proof.
Cheers!
YigitDecember 5, 2013 at 12:46 am #196411Well the developer said he didn’t create a child theme because my site was a one page website and everything can be handled with the custom template he created for the theme. So what is the best way now to go about updating the theme whilst saving the changes?
Thanks! :)
December 5, 2013 at 1:52 am #196439Hey!
Did he create a new file for the custom template or something like that? If he did then you don’t need to worry. It won’t be overwritten when you update the theme.
Best regards,
IsmaelDecember 5, 2013 at 2:10 am #196449Great I’ll find out. If not, would it would not be hard to make right?
Thanks!
December 5, 2013 at 7:21 am #196556In the mean time, for updating the theme what do I do? although he seems to have a created a new theme out of the enfold theme for my website so I’m not sure updating the enfold theme will do anything. Isn’t there a way to look at the slider code and see why it’s not working properly? thanks!
December 5, 2013 at 8:38 am #196562OK, he says he indeed created a new “home-template.php” file.
December 5, 2013 at 11:42 am #196617Hi!
This is how you can update the theme: https://vimeo.com/channels/aviathemes/67209750
If he created home-template.php file then you don’t need to worry about the update overriding the template.
Best regards,
IsmaelDecember 7, 2013 at 4:12 am #197238Right, so I downloaded the theme again and updated the whole enfold folder. However when I go to mywebsite.com/homepage/ it says: [LayerSliderWP] Slider not found

December 7, 2013 at 10:27 am #197269What could be going wrong?
Thanks!
December 8, 2013 at 3:49 am #197601Hey!
Edit the frontpage or the homepage and check which layerslider is selected (Advanced Layout Builder). Change the slider and save the page. Then you should get rid of the “[LayerSliderWP] Slider not found” message and the slider will be displayed instead. You can also remove the Layer Slider element if you don’t want one.
Best regards,
IsmaelDecember 8, 2013 at 4:34 am #197621When i go to the “Advanced Layout Editor”
I get this:
When I try to edit the Layerslider I get a blank preview:
I do need the slider which I have edited with seprate image files on the costum theme based on Enfold.
December 8, 2013 at 11:42 pm #197821December 9, 2013 at 1:55 am #197842Hey, I need some small things done on the website anyway. Would you be kind to fix the errors and do the small modifications for some money? Please give me your contact details so we can talk about it. Thanks!
