    Hi,
I have no problem setting up your Enfold template in safari – all works fine.

However when I test on Windows 7 IE8, as usual, I have problems.
I understand IE8 cannot handle CSS media queries which I understand is required for responsive sites and normally that is ok (they just use horizontal scroll bar). Using Enfold, I have set up a homepage slider (two slides) and content plus other pages – responsive operation all fine on safari but on IE8 the slider alone is responsive but the content on the same page is not. There is no horizontal scroll bar shown (I assume there should be normally).

I dont understand how part of the site can be responsive (slider) but the content is not ? I am using animation on the slider similar to your demo site – all works fine on safari and IE except for 3D stuff.

I hope there is a simple explanation – something I am missing – if not I will send my URL later – site being set up on a test url.

Forgive me if this has been addressed – I could not find it on the forum.

    Hi Paul!

If you can provide the URL for the site so we can take a look live that would be helpful. My guess is that the layerslider elements are getting positioned by a mix of css and javascript and if you have that slideshow set as responsive it may have fixes in place for IE8 already.

    Best regards,

    Hi!

I guess you’re using the LayerSlider. The Layerslider script uses js/jquery to scale the slider and to make it responsive because many elements/layers are positioned absolute with the slider area and you can’t always change the position of these elements with media queries. The jquery/js resize method is also supported by IE6/7/8 browsers because it’s based on javascript calculations and does not require css3 media queries. If you want to deactivate the responsive layout of the Layerslider open the slider settings page and click on the “Global Settings” tab. Then search for the “Responsive” setting and switch it off.

I’ll ask Kriesi if it’s possible to deactivate the responsive slider option for IE8 users only. If not we need to talk to the plugin author.

    Regards,
    Peter

    Thanks for the response.
That all makes sense and explains why this is happening.
However, as users of this template will most likely want “responsive”operation for whatever, it is not really practical to turn it off just to suit IE8 viewers, even though there may be a lot of them.

I would think (based on no design knowledge of course) it would be a relatively small modification to automatically turn off the “responsive” setting for IE8 users as you say. It would be appreciated by me and I would say others if this small thing could be fixed. I have had no other problems with the template but being “responsive” is a big plus for the template so it ought to behave.

I will plough on and hope the client does not complain or get complaints – if the IE8 window is large enough it will not be noticed of course, but….

    Hi again.

    Following on – FYI…
I think it is all a little worse. The problem (or related) also shows itself with safari (and I would suspect any browser) if the Enfold theme options “responsive layout” is set to “fixed layout”.

In this case, if the window size is reduced, the content remains as expected (with a scroll bar) but the slider still performs as a responsive object – if you scroll to view the far right of content, the slider info moves away to the left out of sight.

I notice that the “cart” symbol also moves into the window background and out of the menu area but this may be another issue.

This of course is not acceptable to any client and must surely be a “bug” in the slider code. For what looks like a great template, this oversight is surprising.

I would appreciate a fix for this – it surely must be possible for the javascript code to check both this responsive layout setting and for IE8 and not make the slider responsive when not required – to be consistent with what the content does. The absence of the scroll bar with IE8 related to the content being fixed because of IE8 but the “responsive layout” setting set to “responsive layout…” would also seem to be a “bug”.

If this cannot be addressed, I would appreciate a heads up as I will have to look at other templates.

    Regards Paul

    Hey Paul!

We’ve asked Kriesi to take a look and give it a proper top down fix if needed. We get so few users of the fixed width option at this point that there are still some cases where things aren’t quite working as intended.

If you can create a temporary admin account and post the details as a private reply we can try and get it sorted out for your installation asap.

    Best regards,
    Devin

    Thanks Devin,
The major problem is the slider being responsive regardless of anything else. The fact that it s responsive when “fixed width”is selected was only intended as a clue to where the problem may lie.
My site is being changed to often at the moment but your “demo” site has the same problem so I would think that if you solved that you solve it all.

    Regards Paul
