My top of page sliders are not appearing, so there are larget blank spots at the top of each page.

I have put an example of the problem in the private box. I have already deleted the easy slider on my homepage, but I would prefer to put it back and not have to go completely re-vamp all of my pages.

Any idea what happened? I have not changed anything since the last time I checked my site.
    Thanks!

    Hey gatehealing,
Your site is showing the error Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected string
try disabling Enfold Theme Options ▸ Performance ▸ JS & CSS file merging and compression and enable Enfold Theme Options ▸ Performance ▸ Delete old CSS and JS files and clear your browser cache and check.
If this doesn’t help please include an admin login in the Private Content area so we can be of more assistance.

    Best regards,
    Mike

Thanks Mike. I’ll give it a go after my next session and will check back. I just saw that Syntax error and wondered about that.

Ok, now I get a Bad Gateway error 502 with cloudflare udner that line. . . however when I refresh, it loads fine adn the sliders are there.

Not sure what’s up with the bad gateway, but I did see it with my last blog post but thought it was just a glitch . . I have refreshed all pages except Counseling Services > Personal Development Counseling, and Helpful Resources (on main menu across the top, by the magnifying glass). I’m guessing you won’t get the 502 bad gateway error except on those 2 pages (helpful resources is a top level page that is not under Counseling Services).

    Hi,
That is a cloudflare error while they are updating their cache, cloudflare cache can take up to 24hrs to fully clear.

Well that’s an unfortunate outcome from CloudFlare. People get an error when I update something . . .or apparently even when I don’t since I was getting some of those on pages I never updated.

Thanks for the help and explanation! I’ll check back if it recurs. . .for now a JS error checker didn’t find any errors. . .now should I go back and re-enable JS and CSS minfication and disable the delete old?

    Hi,

I go back and re-enable JS and CSS minfication and disable the delete old?

The scripts and css are already minified/compressed using the WP-Super-Minify plugin, so it’s not necessary to activate the default compression. If you prefer, you can deactivate the plugin and use the theme’s built-in option instead.

I seem to remember running tests and finding that my speed suffers greatly unless i have somethings controlled by your stuff, and others controlled by the plugin . . . it was a maddeningly long process of figuring that out. I’ll try it both ways and see. The plugin interface looks different now than last time I looked at it, so they may have simplified it (or I may be thinking about a different plugin that was more complex).

I also have WP super cache running . . . does that have any impact? With enfold minification/merging off and super minify on, my debugbear numbers are showing ttfb at 2 seconds: https://www.debugbear.com/test/website-speed/W7grfudn/overview . . . I do remember that jetpack really screwed things up.

I’m putting my login creds in private box in case y’all need to see how its setup. I appreciate y’all’s help and patience.

UPDATE: With enfold css/js minification/merging ON with super minify, it gets me back to where I should be . . . no clue why it needs to do double duty? https://www.debugbear.com/test/website-speed/2QkjuPDT/overview

    Thx!

    Hi,
Glad to hear that you have this sorted out, please note that when you double minify with either two plugins or a plugin and the theme settings it will typically cause errors due to how minify works. Minify removes spaces and other characters from CSS, when it is double minified needed characters are sometimes removed causing errors. So the best approach is to minify only once with either the theme settings or a plugin.
TTFB is a server response time, your test above is for a mobile device which is throttled and not using true mobile 5G speed, typically most test mobile at 3G and 5G for desktop.

When I disable the Super Minify plugin and use the Enfold theme minify/merge CSS/JS options, I get the broken Easy slider again. I think it is because a JS error is recurring with your minify/merge tools.

I’m not sure what other tool to use to assess my performance . . . I think y’all had suggested DebugBear a while back, so that’s why I use theirs. Is there a better option for me to check?

Current desktop with Super Minfy plugin (enfold minify disabled): https://www.debugbear.com/test/website-speed/C7ILxl13/overview
Current mobile with Super Minify plugin (enfold minify disabled): https://www.debugbear.com/test/website-speed/iBNTHJck/overview

When I make changes, I typically delete the cache in WP, then delete my browser cache/history as well . . . this seems to trigger that 502 Bad Gateway cloudflare that I’ll get on their forum and with my host support to troubleshoot, but if y’all see anything I should point out to them, I’ll appreciate the info. . . I have to go visit every page and refresh it . . . though blog posts are not impacted.

    Hi,
Typically when using cloudflare you will need to wait until their cache clears, about 12hrs, this is probably causing the error.
I recommend disabling cloudflare completely and when you are done building your site enabled again.

    Best regards,
    Mike

That’s a good idea. I had not thought of that. There is a Pause button on there.

    Thanks!
