    Hi,

I’ve been struggling for a few days now trying to work out how to apply a custom template to a category so I can change the look and feel of the post pages for the posts belonging to that category. Ultimately I want to add ACF fields to them. My site is in maitenance mode at the moment, but I’m incluing my admin access details.

How can I get a page like this to show some ACF custom fields and also modify the look of it a bit (I think the image is too big)?

Is there a tutorial on how to this? I’m so frustrated working on this for days and getting nowwhere!

    Thanks

    Lucy

    Hey lucybb2,
Thank you for your patience and the login, I see your CPT “Journal” do not have a ALB builder field, I believe that this is because your CPT is not enabled in the theme. Typicality you would enable Enfold Theme Options > Layout Builder > Show advanced options
    Screen Shot 2024 08 04 at 7.48.08 AM
Then add your CPT to Activate Your Custom Post Types For ALB
    Screen Shot 2024 08 04 at 8.08.03 AM
and now the ALB button shows in your CPT:
    Screen Shot 2024 08 04 at 8.10.05 AM
and now you can add elements to the page:

I did the steps above for you, please check.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Thank you Mike.

    I am trying this now.

But does this mean that I have to edit every “Journal” item individually? There are thousands. I thought they’d be a way to say, if post type = X then put out these custom fields. I didn’t think I’d have to do it page by page.

    Thanks

I’ve found a tutorial here which is helping :)

    Hi,
In your Journal CPT you will add the “Custom Layout” element like you did here:
    Enfold Support 6447
Which uses your “Custom Layout” here:
    Enfold Support 6449
In your layout the image must have a placeholder image, I added this for you so your image will show:
    Enfold Support 6451
but your image text is too long unless you use css, to answer your question, you will need to add the “Custom Layout” element to each post unless you add the ACF code to the page another way, perhaps a PHP function. I’m not sure about that we intended to use the “Custom Layout” element.

    Best regards,
    Mike

Thanks for the help Mike. I’m getting there I hope!
As the template is separate and it is just as small change I have to do to pages, or as I set them up, I think that’s ok.
Yes my picture descriptions are often very long. But that’s deliberate. I want to make the website as accessible as possible for visually impaired people etc. I’ll move the picture descriptions to below the image or similar.

    Hi,
Glad that we could help, you could show the picture descriptions as a text element below the image in the Custom Layout.
Let us know if you have any other questions, or if we shall close this thread.

    Best regards,
    Mike
