The Ajax Portfolio is having a problem (I’ve noticed it for close to a year now).
When the images load, and you scroll down a few rows, the images start to overlap each other.
But when you resize the browser window (doesn’t matter how much, or in which direction), the images then resort themselves the correct way, with equal spacing between.
This will even happen on mobile when you scroll down fast.
Please let me know asap how to fix, thank youJuly 4, 2023 at 4:05 am #1412388Hey flylanddesigns,
Thank you for the inquiry.
This issue usually happens when there are numerous portfolio images on a single page. It occurs due to slower image loading, leading to mispositioning of the portfolio items by the “isotope” script. To avoid the issue, it is recommended to reduce the number of items on the same page and make use of pagination effectively. Additionally, you can include the following script to trigger a “resize” event during image loading, ensuring proper alignment:
add_action('wp_footer', 'ava_auto_resize'); function ava_auto_resize(){ ?> <script> (function($){ var int = window.setInterval(function(){ $(window).trigger('resize'); }, 1500); $(window).on("load", function () { setTimeout(function() { clearInterval(int); }, 500); }); })(jQuery); </script> <?php }

IsmaelJuly 4, 2023 at 3:28 pm #1412430Really? That sounds like broken functionality. My Portfolio galleries do not have THAT many images. I don’t want to use a lot of Pagination.
When I try to copy/paste your code into the Functions php file, I get an error that says:
“Something went wrong …”
When I delete what I pasted and hit update again, everything works fine (or at least, as it originally did). Can you double-check the code you gave me?
July 6, 2023 at 3:24 am #1412579Hi,
Did you copy the code from your email? Please ensure that you copy it directly from the forum to prevent characters from being converted to their HTML entity format.

IsmaelJuly 8, 2023 at 10:32 pm #1412793Yes, I did copy it directly from the forum. Any time I paste it in to functions.php, it says:
“Something went wrong. Your change may not have been saved. Please try again. There is also a chance that you may need to manually fix and upload the file over http://FTP.”Please help! The Portfolio Grid looks really bad like this.
July 9, 2023 at 1:56 pm #1412852Hi,
On my server when I try to edit the functions.php I see the error:Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.
But this is a not and error from the snippet, these typically a server configuration that prevents the WordPress loopback check to properly check for potential errors.
This just means that for your site you should update your file via FTP or use a plugin like WPcode plugin this plugin supports PHP code snippets, JavaScript code snippets, & CSS code snippets.
I checked the code above in my WPcode plugin and it returned no errors, please give this a try.Best regards,
MikeJuly 9, 2023 at 10:05 pm #1412900I used Filezilla to add this directly to my functions.php file in my child theme.
I added the code to the bottom of the document, and it didn’t have any affect on the gallery (still broken).
So I tried adding it to the top, which broke the site.
I have since removed it.
What can I do about this?
In my opinion, this seems like broken functionality. I’m not sure how you can advertise a Portfolio Grid that only works if it only loads one screen of thumbnails at a time.
I see that Lazy Loading is an option (I currently have it checked off, since it seems to warn against it).
Should I try that?July 10, 2023 at 4:22 am #1412913Hi,
Based on previous threads, we have observed that enabling lazy loading typically does not improve the situation and instead, it often makes it worse. This issue should not occur if the images are properly compressed and the site is hosted on a reliable server. And again it could be beneficial using the pagination and reducing the number of images displayed on a single page, perhaps to half of the current number on your site. If you can provide the FTP login details in the private field, we will try to add the script for you.
Thank you for your patience.

IsmaelJuly 10, 2023 at 2:07 pm #1412956Thanks for the offer – I will take you up on that (adding the code for me) …
But first, I’m going to go back in and resize all my thumbnails to make sure they are all the same size, and compressed.Pagination is not an option for me – so if I can’t get this to work, I’ll probably have to find a different theme.

Pagination is not an option for me – so if I can’t get this to work, I’ll probably have to find a different theme.
I apologize for the inconvenience. We hope that the image compression will help resolve the issue and improve the performance of your website. To further optimize the loading speed of the site, please check the following articles.

IsmaelJuly 20, 2023 at 2:14 pm #1413836Here’s what’s confusing to me:
My Shop gallery sometimes has 100 products on one page. When the images load, they don’t overlap each other the way the Portfolio does.
For example, this Shop page has no overlap issues:
https://www.flylanddesigns.com/product-category/disc-golf-discs/And I noticed that it’s not just a problem with the Portfolio – it’s the regular Galleries too:
These overlap until you resize the window:
https://www.flylanddesigns.com/licensing-zombies-horror-skulls-skeletons/And this Page using the Portfolio Grid has recently had all the images made the same size: 450x563px. They have been optimized and compressed. And yet, that didn’t fix the problem:
https://www.flylanddesigns.com/tikicrew/WHY?
Seems like there is something broken.

Here’s what’s confusing to me:
My Shop gallery sometimes has 100 products on one page. When the images load, they don’t overlap each other the way the Portfolio does. The product grid is not using the “isotope” script, so it lacks some layout and filtering capabilities but it does display more consistently compare to grids using the script such as the Portfolio Grid element. You can find more info about the isotope script in the following link.
