GuestHi, I have a website with a very old version of Enfold (2016) and the person who created it doesn’t work with us anymore.
We want to buy a new license and install the more current version. How can we do it without affecting all our content (entries/plugins/etc)?
Thanks!June 7, 2023 at 5:06 am #1409827Hey Carmen!
Thank you for the inquiry.
You will have to update the theme manually via FTP and it may need to be done on a clone installation, just so you don’t affect the live site while doing the update. Once everything is up and running in the cloned site, redo the same steps in the live site. To update the theme manually via FTP, please follow these steps:
1. Create a clone installation of your live site. This will ensure that you don’t affect the live site during the update process.
2. Access the clone installation using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or a similar file management tool.
3. Download the latest version (5.6.2) of the theme from Themeforest.
4. Unzip the theme files on your local computer.
5. Connect to the clone installation via FTP and navigate to the directory where the theme files are located. This is typically the “wp-content” > “themes” folder within your WordPress installation.
6. Upload the updated theme files to the appropriate directory, replacing the existing theme files.
7. Once the files are uploaded, log in to the admin dashboard of the clone installation.
8. You may be prompted to run any necessary update routines or migrations. Follow the instructions provided.
9. Verify that the updated theme is functioning correctly on the clone installation.
10. If everything is working as expected, repeat the same steps on the live site. However, exercise caution when updating the theme on the live site, as any issues or incompatibilities could affect the site’s functionality.
11. After updating the theme on the live site, thoroughly test the site to ensure that all features and functionalities are working correctly. Please note that updating the theme manually via FTP requires caution. If you’re not comfortable with this process, it’s recommended to seek assistance from a third party developer.
If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask.
Best regards,
