    Hey,

    Thanks for the information.

Please post FTP logins here privately as well. Also, can we temporarily de-activate active plugins on your staging site for testing purposes?

    Best regards,
    Yigit

I’ve included sftp credentials as private reply.
If you have problems connecting – try again. the server quite often refuses the connection, it’s annoying but I eventually get in.

To answer to your question – yes do whatever you need to do to troubleshoot, including disabling plugins.

    Just to reiterate:
I have tried with all plugins disabled – issues remain the same.

using another theme seemed to correct the issue, both with plugins disabled and enabled.

When opening in recovery mode – both Enfold and Enfold Child throw errors about incomplete installation

    thanks you for help!

    Hi,

Thanks for the details, and sorry for the late reply. I’ve tried reproducing this problem on a test installation, but haven’t been able to. Are we allowed to deactivate plugins and themes on your staging site?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Yes, please do what you need to.
I received this alert when you were logged into the staging server earlier today (est), indicating that the custom panel was still not loading. So it seems the error did occur for you but not sure why you state you can’t replicate the problem:
    ——-
WordPress has a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

    Hi,

I’ve tried reproducing this problem on a test installation

That is referring to my own installation, not yours.

I’ve tried deactivating plugin and uploading a fresh copy of the theme on your staging site, but nothing helps unfortunately. Would you be able to try a different PHP version to see what happens then?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1403293

I rolled back to php version 7.4.3 and that seemed to resolve the issues. Not sure what next step should be, how to resolve issues with latest PHP version.

    #1403316

    Hi,

I can’t reproduce the problem on a test installation using PHP 8.0 and 8.1, but don’t have the option to use the exact version you are using though. Do you have the option to use PHP 8.0 or another version of 8.1 maybe?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1403324

    PHP 7.4.3 fixes the issue
PHP 8.0. and 8. 1 – the problems return. I’ll hazard a guess the problems began with the initial 8.0 update, but I only discovered the issue in the past two weeks since I only use the customizer rarely and haven’t edited any widgets for quite some time. I went through all the recommended troubleshooting steps before I contacted you.

    Hi,
Have you tried disabling the Mailchimp API and removing the Mailchimp element on the homepage and the Mailchimp widget and then try PHP v8?
I don’t have any issues with Mailchimp on my test site and PHP v8.0.23, but this is what your error seems to be pointing to.

Also as a side point, I don’t recommend testing with your child theme as you have a custom header.php & footer.php and these will most likely need to be updated, we don’t recommend adding custom header.php & footer.php in your child theme as it is the number one cause for site crashes after major updates. I recommend adding any customizations to your child theme functions.php to avoid this issue in the future.

    Best regards,
    Mike

I have a few other websites using Enfold and Enfold Child themes. They do not have the Mailchimp plugin and are experiencing the same issues as https://luxuriant-robot.flywheelstaging.com/ when using PHP 8.0. When I roll back to 7.4 the issues go away. Neither of them have custom header.php or footer.php in the child theme. these sites also have a different hosting provider. So with several different variables at play, it seems the PHP version 8.0 and higher is the only consistent issue across the 3 sites.

I’m restored PHP 8.0 so as to continue troubleshooting

Tested Local version of staging site – got rid of Mailchimp API, Mailchimp, widget, homepage element and that didn’t seem to make any difference.

    Hi,
Try comparing your webhost PHP extensions for PHP 7.4 & 8.0, I found on my webhost the zip extension was not enabled by default in PHP v8.0
This didn’t cause any real issues and I don’t think it is your issue, but there could be a different extension causing a issue in your case.
Here is what my test site is using for v8
    php_v8.jpeg

    Best regards,
    Mike

    #1403345

I’ll take a look – the web host has a fixed set of modules that are applied regardless of PHP version. They suggested that the theme developer ensure that they fully support PHP 8.1, on top of all plugins currently installed.

    #1403346

    Hi,
Yes the theme is but you would need to check with the plugin authors for the plugins that you use yourself.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    #1403347

well, even with all plugins deactivated – the issues remain. My other Enfold sites, I discovered, were still using 7.4 and hence worked fine, but when I updated to 8.1 – they all experienced the same widget/customizer issues. Those other sites use different plugins and a different hosting provider. The only common denominator is the Enfold theme.

    #1403350

Staging site needs to be available for Client review Mon – Fri
May I ask you to exit recovery/troubleshooting mode within the next 6 hours.

Thank you – issues still not resolved but will need to address later in the week.

    #1403374

    Hi,
Seems that we missed the 6 hour window, so let us know later in the week when the site is available again.
Also let us know what webhosts are experiencing this issue and if they are “managed hosts” and if they are using “optimized WordPress” installs, or if they have “must-use” plugins that can not be disabled.

    Best regards,
    Mike
