Hello, yesterday I updated to the latest version of Enfold 5.5 and when trying to edit some pages on our site, I receive this message:

There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

    Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.

I was receiving this error right after updating the theme. I think it has something to do with the new version of the theme and Yoast SEO Premium not working well together. The admin email showed the below, I added in Private Content. What can I do in this case? Thank you.

    Hi John,

Please revert to the previous version of Enfold and please create a staging site, so we can try to update it in the staging site.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

How should I revert to previous version, from a backup?

    #1402364

    Hi John,

Try to revert to the previous version of Enfold (5.4.1) first.
Please check the link in private content.

If that does not help, and if there’s no critical data then please revert to the previous version from your backup.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

How would I revert to 5.4.1, through FTP or can I do that through WordPress?

    #1402368

    Hi John,

If you can access the WordPress Dashboard, then you can just switch to a default WordPress Theme, delete Enfold, and then upload version 5.4.1 (enfold.zip) and activate it (if you’re using a child theme then activate the child theme instead).

If you can’t access the dashboard, then FTP or cPanel will be your options.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

Hi, so I can’t create a staging site since our IT department only allows access to the staging site from the local network at the office. I was able to disable Yoast SEO Premium plugin and I can now edit pages. Yoast said a bug report was created for the error I had, so I guess I’ll wait for the update or if Enfold releases a theme update for version 5.5.1 before then, I’ll try that.

For now, as a temporary solution, if I disable the plugin, edit the page, then update the page, then enable the plugin, would that interfere with anything else?

    #1402442

    Hi John,

I don’t think it will cause any issue, it’s more like a hassle since you have to disable when you edit and enable once editing is done.
We’ll also try to investigate on the said issue.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

I just updated the Yoast SEO Premium plugin to version 20.4, but the critical error issue still happens when trying to edit any page. I believe the issue has something to do with Enfold version 5.5

    #1403716

    This is the error below

    #1403849

    Hi John,

I tried to use Yoast SEO Premium 20.4 with Enfold 5.5 and WordPress 6.2 and I don’t get the error that you’re getting.
What version of PHP are you using? go to Tools > Site Health > Info (tab) > Server > PHP version, to see the current version you’re using.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

The PHP version is 8.1.2-1ubuntu2.11 (Supports 64bit values)

    #1404187

    Hi John,

I’m using 8.1.16 (Supports 64bit values) and it’s doesn’t show that error on my end, PHP 8.0 seems to have no issue as well.
Can you try to disable plugins and make sure only the Yoast SEO and Yoast SEO Premium are the only plugins enabled, then for theme switch to the Enfold (if you are using a child theme) and see if the problem still persists?

    Best regards,
    Nikko

Sorry for the late reply. I tried this and the problem still persists when I have Yoast SEO Premium activated. Please note, this error only occurs on older pages. If I create a new page and publish, then go try to and edit, I don’t receive this error.

    Hi John,

Can you try to switch to a default WordPress theme? and check if this problem also persists.
You can try to use Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, so you can try to switch themes without affecting your users.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

Hello, I tried this and the problem doesn’t persist on a default WordPress theme. When I switch back to Enfold, I still have the same issue.

    Hi John,

Can you try to check if there’s an error_log file on your root directory? it may contain useful information related to the issue.
And post it’s content in private content.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

    #1405829

Hi Nikko, how would I go about searching for that?

    #1405938

    Hi John,

You will need to access it via FTP or cPanel.
Here’s some useful instruction on how to go to the root folder: https://chemicloud.com/kb/article/document-root-cpanel/
Once you’re in the root folder, check for the file called error_logs

    Best regards,
    Nikko
