Are there any know issues with using webp images instead of jpeg images with the Enfold theme?
I have a website with a lot of images and want to make the page size smaller. I sue single images on this site, but also mansonary galleries and background images in color sections.
Thanks for the help and info :)

Hey Alwin,
Thanks for your question, many Enfold users use webp images and I have not seen any specific issues posted about this.
I did find this article: Is WebP really better than JPEG? which says:
WebP doesn’t generally have much better compression efficiency when compared to JPEG.
note that for a 500px image the savings is only 6kb:
but for a 1500px image there is no savings at all:
I’m not sure that it would be worth the effort to convert a lot of images to WebP, but you can try.
I have always had good results with TinyJPG and their WordPress Plugin
Best regards,
Mike
Hello Mike,
In my experience converting jpeg to WebP does save a lot of KB’s and is certainly word the effort!
I use the plugin Imagify now for this purpose and it is working fine.
The only issue seems to be that Enfold can not use PNG images as WebP? I have converted all my JPEG and PNG images to WebP and all JPEG images are now displayed as WebP, but the PNG images are still displayed as PNG.
Is that a know issue related with Enfold?
Thanks,
Alwin
Hi,
Perhaps there is an issue with your converter, I test with this free online converter and I found no issues on a clean install with no plugins.
Please give this a try.
